On the afternoon of May 12, athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh (from Lang Giang district, Bac Giang province) entered the final round of the 10,000m race. This was her last competition at the 32nd SEA Games.
Also competing in this event, the Vietnamese team has Pham Thi Hong Le. To complete the 10,000 m distance, the athletes run 25 laps around the stadium in Cambodia.
At the 32nd SEA Games, Nguyen Thi Oanh competed in the 10,000m event for the first time. On the track, for most of the time, Nguyen Thi Oanh and Pham Thi Hong Le were in the top 3 leading athletes.
In the final round, Oanh pulled away very quickly. After much effort, Nguyen Thi Oanh finished first with a time of 35 minutes 11 seconds 53, winning the fourth gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games. Athlete Pham Thi Hong Le won the silver medal.
Previously, Nguyen Thi Oanh won 3 gold medals at the 32nd SEA Games in the 5,000 m, 1,500 m and 3,000 m obstacle courses.
Thus, Oanh has set a record as the only Vietnamese athlete to win 4 gold medals at one SEA Games.
