In order to promptly encourage athletes, many national sports federations have announced significant bonuses for outstanding achievements.

The Vietnam Sports Federation decided to award certificates of merit and direct bonuses to gymnastics and aerobic athletes: 10 million VND for gold medals, 6 million VND for silver medals, and 4 million VND for bronze medals.

The Vietnam Athletics Federation – the main force of the country’s sports – also offered a “huge” bonus of up to 1 billion VND for the entire team if they achieved the target of 12 gold medals. This is a great motivation for athletes in the sport that is always considered a “gold mine” at the SEA Games.

In mixed martial arts (MMA), participating for the first time at the SEA Games, fighters will receive 100 million VND for each gold medal, affirming the industry's interest in new sports that are in line with international trends.

The Vietnam Badminton Federation announced a bonus of 100 million VND for gold medals, 50 million VND for silver medals, and 30 million VND for bronze medals, aiming for at least one bronze medal at this congress.

Meanwhile, the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation has proactively prepared the bonus fund since September, with the bonus in USD: 700 USD for gold medal, 500 USD for silver medal, 300 USD for bronze medal; the coach receives 50% of the corresponding bonus.

Early and clear bonus policies not only create motivation but also show respect for the persistent efforts of national players.

Expectations from the "gold mines" of Vietnamese sports

In many SEA Games, athletics has always been the biggest hope. At the 31st SEA Games at home, the athletics team won 22 gold medals, leading the region. At the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, the achievement was still impressive with 12 gold medals, affirming the irreplaceable position of this sport.

Vietnamese athletics at SEA Games 33 will compete for 47 sets of medals.

Besides athletics, swimming continues to be the mainstay of achievements. Swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang still plays the leading role with his strong events of 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle. Young forces such as Vo Thi My Tien and Nguyen Thi Hien are also expected to create surprises. Swimming aims for 6-8 gold medals.

SEA Games 33 brings together more than 60 sports, of which Vietnam is present in 47, with a strong force of 1,165 members, including 842 athletes competing in 443 events. This is one of the largest delegations ever.

Prepare seriously – aim for a long-term vision

Since the beginning of 2025, the work of reviewing and selecting athletes has been carried out nationwide. Each individual and each sport group is comprehensively evaluated in terms of capacity, performance, physical strength and mentality. The list of more than a thousand members of the delegation is not just a number, but the crystallization of tens of thousands of hours of training and dedication.

Strong sports such as athletics, swimming, wrestling, canoeing, shooting, chess, etc. continue to receive key investment. In addition, the strategy of rejuvenating the force is also a top priority, in order to prepare for further goals such as the Asian Games and the Olympics.

At the National Sports Training Center and many other gathering places, the training atmosphere is always bustling from early morning to late evening.

Many key teams were sent to Korea, Japan, Hungary, etc. to train in order to gain access to modern professional conditions. The remaining forces trained domestically at high intensity, aiming to be ready before the day of departure.

Sports medicine – nutrition – the “soft shield” to protect performance

Along with training, sports medicine is also being strengthened. Each athlete has a daily health record, and a nutritional regimen is set up specifically for each sport group. A team of doctors and therapists are always on hand to help athletes recover optimally after each training session.

Many players shared that the dedicated support of the medical team helps them maintain their form and confidence entering important competitions.

SEA Games 33 is not only a playground for competition but also a place for Vietnamese sports to demonstrate their mettle, indomitable spirit and aspiration to rise up. The strategy of the delegation this time is aimed at a dual goal: maintaining a position in the top three delegations in the region and creating a solid foundation for the future of the continent.

With the spirit of solidarity, faith and national pride, each athlete entering the 33rd SEA Games carries the responsibility and aspiration to continue writing the proud golden pages of Vietnamese sports.
