Mr. Vu Duc Gioi, Deputy Director of the Environmental Education and Services Center of Yok Don National Park (Buon Don commune, Dak Lak province), said: Yok Don National Park has a characteristic ecosystem of open broadleaf and deciduous tropical forests, also known as dipterocarp forests. The forests here mainly consist of oil-bearing trees, which are very drought-resistant.
"During the rainy season, the trees in the forest grow lush and green. In the dry season, the leaves change color and fall off to store water in their trunks to withstand the long and harsh dry season of the Central Highlands in general and the Buon Don area in particular. This creates a very unique ecosystem of Yok Don National Park," Mr. Gioi shared.

Yok Don National Park covers an area of over 115,000 hectares and is named after the highest mountain in the region, meaning "the mountain made up of hills". When the Central Highlands enters the dry season from November of the previous year to April of the following year, the dipterocarp forest begins its leaf-shedding cycle to adapt to the drought.
