On May 1, within the framework of the Hue Traditional Craft Festival - 2023, a large number of people and 6 teams gathered at Duc Buu communal house yard (Huong So ward, Hue city) to compete in the traditional banh beo, nam, and loc making contest.

At the contest, members of 6 teams will perform the steps to make these famous traditional cakes. The products of “beo”, “nam”, and “loc” made here will be presented by the teams with the most beautiful decorations for the judges to score and choose the winning team.
The banh beo, nam, and loc dishes are then placed on carrying poles and carried to the village communal house to be used for ceremonies and to show gratitude to ancestors.
According to the Organizing Committee, the profession of making banh beo, nam, and loc has appeared since the early 19th century for more than 150 years and is associated with the cultural life of Duc Buu village.
On January 11, 2021, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province issued a Decision on recognizing Duc Buu banh beo, nam, loc craft village as a traditional craft village of Thua Thien Hue province.
Mr. Duong Dinh Hanh, Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee, said that Duc Buu village is one of the traditional craft villages making banh beo, banh nam, banh loc, banh it, or banh ram-it (banh ram combined with banh it)...

The activities at the traditional Banh Beo, Nam, and Loc making contest this year are held within the framework of the Hue Traditional Craft Festival - 2023 to preserve and promote traditional crafts, honor ancestors as well as artisans who have contributed to preserving, maintaining and developing specialty cakes.
This is also an opportunity to widely introduce local cakes to locals and tourists.
The profession of making banh beo, nam, and loc in Duc Buu village currently has about 54 households participating in production and business, accounting for about 27% of the total of more than 200 households in the village.
