According to Xinhua News Agency, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil said on November 13 that attacks by US forces on ships in the Caribbean Sea violated basic principles of international law.
"Every principle of international law that we know has been violated," Foreign Minister Yvan Gil said, referring to the US action.

Foreign Minister Gil added that US actions in the Caribbean not only pose a threat to Venezuela but also “to all of humanity” and the United Nations system.
According to US figures, since the beginning of September, US forces have carried out military attacks on at least 20 vessels in international waters, killing at least 76 people.
On November 11, a US aircraft carrier arrived in the Caribbean Sea, threatening to escalate tensions in the region.
"With the addition of the Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier strike group, the US force deployed in the Caribbean now exceeds 15,000 troops. This is the largest military buildup in the region in three decades," the source said.
"These forces will enhance and strengthen existing capabilities to interdict drug trafficking, degrade and dismantle transnational criminal organizations in the Western Hemisphere," the US Navy's Southern Command stressed.
Meanwhile, Venezuela has conducted a military exercise aimed at countering "threats" and ensuring the country is "protected and defended".
Venezuela has protested the presence of the US Navy off its coast, warning that US action could trigger a full-scale conflict.
