According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health , as of 9:00 a.m. on November 12, hospitals in the city have received 304 cases of digestive disorders after eating Ms. Bich's toad bread for examination and treatment, of which 244 cases have stabilized and have been discharged, and 60 patients are currently continuing treatment at hospitals in the city. The severe case that had to be treated in intensive care at Gia Dinh People's Hospital this morning has been removed from the ventilator and has stable vital signs.

Most of the poisoning cases were after eating Ms. Bich's toad bread at Branch 1 Nguyen Thai Son (Hanh Thong ward), some cases at Branch 2 Le Quang Dinh (Binh Loi Trung ward) of the same chain of shops.

A representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that the test results so far show that the causative agent is Salmonella enteritidis and Salmonella.

It is known that Salmonella belongs to the Enterobacteriaceae family (intestinal bacteria) with rod-shaped, mobile flagella, living in the intestines... There are many different types of Salmonella bacteria such as Salmonella typhi causing typhoid fever, Salmonella choleraesuis causing blood infection, Salmonellosis causing food poisoning.

Salmonella infection (salmonellosis) is a disease caused by Salmonella bacteria, when enough bacteria overcome stomach acid and the immune system to make an infected person sick. Salmonella bacteria invade and destroy the cells lining the intestines, making it difficult for the body to absorb water, affecting the intestines, causing diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, and fever.

Salmonella bacteria normally live in the intestines of animals and humans, passing them out in feces. Humans are most commonly infected through contaminated water or food.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has directed hospitals and the City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) to continue coordinating with the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) to conduct microbiological culture tests and gene sequencing of isolated strains to clarify the cause and factors related to this cluster of food poisoning cases.

A single case with a positive blood culture result for Staphylococcus coagulase-negative as reported by Gia Dinh People's Hospital was re-identified by the hospital as being due to external infection when performing microbiological testing. The Staphylococcus coagulase-negative group does not produce enterotoxins and does not cause food poisoning.
