Don Phong Commune (Bach Thong) currently has a tangerine area of over 300 hectares, concentrated in Ban Dan, Na Dan, Na Pan villages... This year, tangerines have good prices, so many households are quite excited. In addition to perennial native tangerines, in recent years, people in the commune have tended to choose the tangerine variety (sweet tangerine) to develop the economy . This crop has the advantage of a quick harvest time (about 5-6 years), the economic cost is twice as high as that of Vietnamese tangerines, and is favored by the market. Mr. Dang Phuc Lam in Na Pan village has more than 2.5 hectares of citrus trees, including 0.6 hectares of tangerine. He planted this area since 2013, and all of it has been harvested.
This year's sweet tangerine crop is fruitful, and by the end of the season, Mr. Lam's family is expected to harvest about 10 tons, with an average selling price of 25,000 VND/kg, helping him pocket over 200 million VND. Talking to us, Mr. Lam shared: "Sweet tangerines require quite high technical skills. The care process requires knowing how to tighten the tree, prune the branches, and fertilize with the right amount to provide nutrients for the tree. I often use potassium fertilizer combined with organic fertilizer to increase the sweetness of the fruit. Tangerines with thin skin, golden yellow, and juicy are quality fruits. Tangerines with thick skin are often spongy, and the price will be low."

Mr. Duong Van Chinh's family in Ban Dan village, Don Phong commune (Bach Thong) grows about 1 hectare of sweet tangerines with 500 trees, and he expects to harvest about 10 tons of fruit this season. Mr. Chinh shared: "The most difficult part of sweet tangerines is still the technical part. If you don't take good care of them and follow the correct technical process, the fruit will easily become spongy, fibrous, and have little water, and will not be sold at a good price."
Ms. Phung Thi Sim, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Don Phong Commune, said: "In recent years, the area of mandarin has decreased, but mainly the local mandarin variety due to aging. However, in recent years, some households have been interested in developing the sweet mandarin variety, most of them buy the seeds themselves to plant. The difficulty in the locality is still the lack of land for production, which limits the expansion of the area."

Not only in Don Phong commune, sweet tangerine is now also widely grown in many places such as Duong Phong commune, Quang Thuan (Bach Thong), Kim Lu commune (Na Ri district)...
As a trader who has many years of experience collecting tangerines and transporting them to the provinces for consumption, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung in Duong Phong commune (Bach Thong) said: During the tangerine season, she collects up to 5-6 tons of various types of tangerines every day, of which sweet tangerines yield 1 ton/day. Villages that grow a lot of sweet tangerines include Ban Mun, Na Coong, and Ban Pe. According to Ms. Nhung, in recent years, people have strongly developed the tangerine variety. The lowland provinces have a great demand for this type of tangerine because it is easy to eat and suitable for many ages.
Tangerine is currently the choice of many households in economic development and enrichment in rural areas. This type of citrus tree is very susceptible to pests and diseases, requiring high cultivation techniques, so people need to be guided more about science and technology to effectively apply in care, thereby improving the quality of crops, bringing stable income./.
