A special train from Pyongyang traveled 680 km to bring North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to Russia. This is the North Korean leader's first international trip since 2019. Coincidentally, his last international trip at that time was also to Russia.
Kim Jong Un arrived in Russia on September 12, with his first stop being Khasan station in Primorsky Region, where he was welcomed by the Russian delegation.
Primorsky Governor Oleg Kozhemyako said on his Telegram channel that he and Natural Resources Minister Alexander Kozlov held talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un shortly after his arrival in Russia.
Khasan Station has a historic landmark, the North Korea-Russia Friendship House, which was established in 1986 to commemorate the first visit of Kim Il Sung – Kim Jong Un's grandfather – to the then Soviet Union.
During his visit to Russia, Kim Jong Un will hold direct talks and attend a banquet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on September 12.
Mr Putin and the North Korean leader will discuss issues of bilateral cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang in various areas, including sensitive ones, Mr Peskov told reporters.
“Above all, issues related to bilateral relations, cooperation, trade, economy and cultural exchanges will be discussed. There will certainly be a deep exchange of opinions on the regional situation and international issues in general, because this is something that interests both Putin and our guest from Pyongyang,” the Kremlin official said.
“Of course, as neighbors, our two countries cooperate in certain sensitive areas that should not be disclosed or announced publicly,” Mr. Peskov stressed.
He noted that Russia is ready to discuss UN Security Council sanctions against North Korea if necessary. Commenting on the White House's warning against selling weapons to Russia, the Kremlin spokesman said Moscow is not interested in Washington's remarks when negotiating with North Korea .
