The excavation pit, located beneath the French colonial-era artillery structure, was dismantled following a UNESCO decision. Cultural layers were identified, spanning from the pre-Thang Long period, through the Ly, Tran, Le, and Nguyen dynasties, to the modern era; the Le dynasty layer was the thickest, nearly 3 meters deep.
Notably, for the first time, scientists have clearly and comprehensively confirmed the scale of the architectural layout of the Kính Thiên Main Hall during the Lê Dynasty. The remnants of the foundation and column bases show that the main hall had a rectangular layout, consisting of 9 bays, with an architectural framework covering an area of up to 1,500 square meters, within a total area of over 3,000 square meters.
