On the evening of December 9, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the 25th meeting of the National Steering Committee on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

The meeting was broadcast live to 22 coastal provinces and cities.

Attending the meeting at the Vinh Long province bridge were comrade Nguyen Quynh Thien - Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and representatives of leaders of relevant departments, branches and localities.

Currently, the whole country has 79,180/79,180 fishing vessels of localities registered and updated on Vnfishbase. During the week, 2,901 fishing vessels leaving the port and 2,708 vessels arriving at the port were inspected and controlled according to regulations and the output of aquatic products exploited through the port was 1,845 tons on the eCDT System.

To date, 54/71 fishing vessels detained by foreign countries have been processed, compared to the EC's assessment. From 2024 to December 7, 2025, the total number of vessels detected losing connection for 6 hours, losing connection for more than 10 days at sea, or exceeding the permitted fishing limit is 21,995; 100% of the vessels have been processed.

In Vinh Long province, 18/19 tasks have been completed; 100% of fishing vessels have been registered and updated on Vnfishbase; 100% of fishing vessels have been licensed. From January 1, 2024 to December 4, 2025, 2,742 vessels were found to have lost connection for 6 hours, lost connection for more than 10 days at sea, and exceeded the permitted fishing boundary, 100% of which have been handled.

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized: Removing the EC's "yellow card" is not only a responsibility but also a matter of national prestige and honor.

In the coming time, relevant ministries, branches and localities will continue to mobilize maximum resources to strictly control assigned tasks; resolutely handle illegal fishing activities; carry out the "dual goal" of both ending illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and restructuring and redeveloping the fisheries industry sustainably and legitimately; urgently issue policies on job conversion and creating sustainable livelihoods for fishermen; resolutely not allow unqualified and unregistered fishing vessels to participate in activities; urgently review and thoroughly handle the arrest of fishing vessels and fishermen by foreign countries; units closely coordinate with competent authorities in investigating, verifying and strictly and thoroughly handling organizations, individuals and fisheries enterprises that operate illegally, assist and condone IUU fishing.
