The U22 Malaysia team received good news when two key players Ubaidullah Shamsul and Haziq Mukhriz officially arrived in Bangkok (Thailand) to strengthen their squad before the decisive match in Group B of the 33rd SEA Games taking place on December 11.

The above mentioned duo of players are considered important additions to the "Malayan Tigers" in the context that they only need not to lose to U22 Vietnam to qualify for the semi-finals of the men's football SEA Games 33. Currently, U22 Malaysia has the same 3 points as U22 Vietnam but is ranked first in the table due to a better goal difference.

Ubaidullah Shamsul Fazili, born in 2003, is the captain of the U22 Malaysia team in the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifying campaign. He is currently playing for Terengganu FC in the national championship (Malaysia Super League). For this reason, Ubaidullah could not join the U22 Malaysia team before the 33rd SEA Games and missed the opening match against Laos on December 6.

However, on December 8, Ubaidullah went to Thailand to join the Malaysian U22 team and had his first training session with his teammates. "He is a classy player, a captain with a lot of personality and courage and an important factor in the team," said U22 Malaysia player Moses Raj.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Haziq Mukhriz, who is playing for UM Damansara, has also arrived in Thailand to further strengthen the defense of the black and yellow team.

However, the personnel problem of U22 Malaysia is still not really stable. Midfielder Aliff Izwan Yuslan (Selangor) is still uncertain to be able to play due to injury not fully recovered.

In addition, 22-year-old winger Haqimi Azim Rosli is in a bad mood before the match against U22 Vietnam as his stepfather has just passed away.

In an emotional post, Haqimi, who plays for Malaysia Super League club Kuala Lumpur City, wrote: "I would like everyone to pray for my father, asking Allah to forgive his mistakes, accept all his good deeds and grant him a beautiful place with Him. Please pray for my family to have enough strength and patience to overcome this difficult period. Thank you all for your prayers and support."
