According to VNA correspondent in Moscow, on November 25, within the framework of the Presidium meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), a ceremony was held to award the title of Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Professor-Academician Chau Van Minh respectfully received the noble title from Professor-Academician Gennedy Kraniskov, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Hero of Russian Labor.

With this event, the Vietnamese scientific community is honored to have a fourth representative honored in the Russian Academy of Sciences, along with Professor-Academician Tran Dai Nghia, Professor-Academician Nguyen Van Hieu and Professor-Academician Dang Vu Minh.

In addition, Professor-Academician Chau Van Minh also became an Academician of three international academic organizations, including: the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences and the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS).

At the election of foreign academicians last May, Professor-Academician Chau Van Minh was one of four scientists elected at the Biology division of RAS.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor-Academician Chau Van Minh expressed his pride at receiving the noble title for both himself and for the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST).

He believes that cooperation between the two Academies will be further promoted, for the development of science and Vietnam-Russia friendship.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the Russian Federation Dang Minh Khoi emphasized that this is a particularly important milestone for Vietnamese science, because RAS is one of the world's leading academies with 300 years of operation, gathering many Nobel Prize-winning scientists and having far-reaching influence.

The election of a Vietnamese scientist by RAS to its ranks demonstrates the Russian scientific community's recognition of Vietnam's research capacity, and reflects the increasingly high position of Vietnamese science in the international arena.

The event also has profound symbolic significance for the bilateral relationship, showing that scientific and technological cooperation, especially in key areas such as marine science, high-energy physics, materials technology, and biology and chemistry, is becoming one of the sustainable pillars of the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

This is a positive signal, opening up many new cooperation opportunities in the period when both countries are prioritizing science-technology development and innovation.

In an interview with VNA reporters after the ceremony, Professor-Academician Chau Van Minh said that the 50-year cooperation between RAS and VAST is proof that Vietnamese academia is not only strong in scientific research but also in international cooperation.

From the place where Vietnamese scientists learn and absorb Russian knowledge and experience and implement joint projects under the advice and guidance of their friends, now with increasingly well-trained knowledge and skills, increased international exposure time, Vietnamese scientists are increasingly proactive in the cooperation process, proposing content, giving directions for cooperation and implementing activities.

For example, in marine cooperation, Vietnamese scientists have learned many new techniques, become more mature and have formed mixed research groups on the basis of equal cooperation.

Especially in recent times, under the strong support and investment of the Vietnamese Government in science and technology, from research infrastructure to training support, Vietnamese scientists have grown in both qualifications and cooperation reputation, and have been highly appreciated by Russian colleagues, who have proactively sought and contacted them to carry out joint projects.

This year, Vietnam and the Russian Federation celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations with many positive activities. According to the Joint Statement on major orientations of the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the new cooperation period agreed upon by General Secretary To Lam and Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Russia last May, 2026 was chosen as the year of science-technology cooperation and innovation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation, an initiative to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of science and technology.

In that direction, VAST will promote cooperation with Russian partners in areas of strength such as basic research, especially in areas where Russia has leading advantages such as physics, chemistry, and Earth sciences; at the same time, focus on mastering core technologies and strategic technologies, following Vietnam's direction; promote the development of scientific applications in solving socio-economic problems according to the practical requirements of the country.

In addition, VAST will also continue to promote cooperation in marine research and assess national marine potential to develop strategic directions in exploiting and sustainably conserving the sea and contributing to affirming the country's sovereignty over its seas and islands.

Professor-Academician Chau Van Minh said that the two Academies plan to sign a maritime cooperation agreement for the 2026-2035 period in Hanoi and continue to implement the cooperative activities that have been very successful in the past time.

Professor-Academician Chau Van Minh is a leading expert in the field of biochemistry of natural compounds, with nearly 500 scientific works and has published more than 40 inventions and useful solutions.

In particular, he has made many important contributions to the development of Vietnam-Russia scientific cooperation, especially in basic research and human resource training.

Professor-Academician Chau Van Minh is also the person who promoted the construction and implementation of maritime cooperation roadmaps between the two Academies, directed the organization of joint survey trips by Russian scientific research vessels named "Academician Oparin" and "Academician Lavrentiev", and cooperated in research and training of human resources in the field of nuclear physics at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research Dubna (JINR) as well as developed interdisciplinary research programs on new materials, pharmaceutical chemistry-biotechnology, nuclear physics, space technology... with many Russian research institutes and universities.

Based on his active contributions in promoting high-quality scientific and technological research and training cooperation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation, the Council of the Union of Educational and Scientific Organizations of the Russian Federation has chosen Professor-Academician Chau Van Minh as "Russian Ambassador of Education and Science."

In the context of the country promoting innovation, international integration plays an extremely important role for Vietnam to access new knowledge and develop human resources, thereby contributing to the goal of making science and technology the driving force for national development.

The election of the VAST President as an Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences is not only a worthy recognition for an outstanding scientist, but also a source of pride for the Vietnamese scientific community.

This is a clear demonstration of the increasingly deep development and integration of Vietnamese science, while opening up new opportunities for enhanced research and training cooperation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation in the coming period./.
