President Vo Van Thuong presided over the ceremony to welcome Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. on a state visit, with a 21-gun salute.
At the welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace this morning, President Vo Van Thuong and Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. saluted the flag and inspected the honor guard of the Vietnam People's Army.
While the national anthems of both countries were being played, a 21-gun salute was fired at the nearby Thang Long Imperial Citadel. This is the most solemn welcoming ceremony for foreign leaders in Vietnam's diplomatic ceremonies.
After the welcoming ceremony, the two leaders held talks to discuss bilateral cooperation and witnessed the signing of cooperation documents.

Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. and his wife will pay a state visit to Vietnam on January 29-30 at the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong and his wife. This is President Marcos Jr.'s first visit to Vietnam since he took office in June 2022.
In addition to his talks with President Vo Van Thuong, the Philippine President will meet with key Vietnamese leaders and conduct a number of other activities in Hanoi .
Vietnam and the Philippines established diplomatic relations in 1976 and established a Strategic Partnership in 2015.

The Philippines is Vietnam's 16th largest trading partner in the world and 6th in ASEAN, with bilateral trade turnover increasing from 2.9 billion USD in 2012 to 7.8 billion USD in 2022. By the end of November 2023, total two-way trade turnover will reach 7.1 billion USD.
The Philippines is also Vietnam's largest rice export market, with a value of 1.41 billion USD in the first 11 months of 2023.
The Philippines has 92 investment projects in Vietnam, with a total registered capital of 608 million USD, ranking 31st out of 143 countries and territories. Vietnam has 5 investment projects in the Philippines with a total capital of nearly 4 million USD.
