Referring to the bilateral relationship, President Gabriel Boric affirmed that the two countries have a history of more than half a century of ties and that Chile was the first country in South America to establish diplomatic relations with Chile under the late President Salvador Allende and that to date, the friendship and cooperation between the two countries continues to develop strongly.
According to the Chilean leader, after the Free Trade Agreement between the two countries officially took effect 10 years ago, bilateral economic and trade cooperation has continuously grown sustainably, with Vietnam now one of Chile's leading trade partners in ASEAN and a bridge helping Chile access the Asian market, while Chile is also one of Vietnam's major trade partners in the Latin American region.
President Gabriel Boric said he had an open and frank talk with the President on bilateral cooperation, as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern; emphasizing that both countries agreed to support multilateralism, as well as the stance of resolving international disagreements by peaceful means; continuing to cooperate closely and always support each other at international organizations and forums. In the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, both sides will continue to make positive and specific contributions, contributing to the stability and development of the region and the world.
For his part, President Luong Cuong said the visit aimed to affirm that Vietnam attaches importance to and wishes to further promote the Comprehensive Partnership with Chile, one of Vietnam's leading important partners in the Latin American region. In particular, the visit took place on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the historic meeting between President Ho Chi Minh and late President Salvador Allende in Hanoi, thereby laying the foundation for the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1971, as well as for the development of the Vietnam-Chile relationship today.
Announcing the results of his talks with President Gabriel Boric, President Luong Cuong was pleased to announce that the two sides had adopted a Joint Statement to further deepen the comprehensive relationship between Vietnam and Chile. The two sides also signed a number of cooperation documents in the fields of export, agriculture, defense, and local cooperation. The two countries are also exchanging and negotiating cooperation documents in a number of other important fields to create conditions for further development of the comprehensive partnership between the two countries; at the same time, they agreed to continue promoting the expansion of cooperation and the exchange of experiences in complementary fields such as environmental protection, climate change response, green and sustainable growth, agricultural processing, mining, and innovation.
Regarding bilateral relations, President Luong Cuong and President Gabriel Boric agreed that the Comprehensive Partnership between Vietnam and Chile has developed very positively in recent times. High-level contacts and delegation exchanges at all levels between the two countries have been maintained regularly and effectively. The people of the two countries always have solidarity and good friendship for each other. The two sides assessed that although bilateral economic and trade relations have developed strongly after 10 years of implementing the bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA), there is still much potential and opportunity for further development. In terms of multilateralism, the two countries maintain close coordination, cooperation and mutual support at international forums and organizations.
In the context of the rapidly evolving and complex international situation, the President said he shared with the President of Chile many similarities on international and regional issues of mutual concern.
