Among the opponents, the Chinese U20 women's team is the strongest in the group, having shown outstanding form in the qualifying round: winning all three matches, scoring 21 goals and conceding none.
Host nation Thailand is a very familiar opponent for the Vietnam U20 women's team, as the two teams frequently meet in regional youth tournaments. Most recently, they met in the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Women's Championship final at Thong Nhat Stadium, where Thailand won 3-1.
The Bangladesh U20 women's team is also showing significant progress and is considered a potential surprise team at the tournament.
Speaking after the draw, head coach of the Vietnam U20 women's team, Okiyama Masahiko, said that the entire team had clearly defined their preparation roadmap for each match.
“As soon as the draw results were announced, we began a thorough analysis of the Chinese U20 women's team, our opponent in the opening match. The second match against host Thailand will be an opportunity to turn the disappointments from the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Championship into motivation. In the final match against Bangladesh, the team's goal is to win all three points to compete for a place in the quarterfinals. We will prepare cautiously, step by step, aiming for the ultimate goal of participating in the U20 Women's World Cup for the first time,” said Masahiko Okiyama.
According to the tournament regulations, eight teams are divided into two groups, playing a round-robin format to select the top two teams from each group and the two best third-placed teams to advance to the quarterfinals. The 2026 AFC U20 Women's Championship will take place in Thailand from April 1 to 18, 2026.
