On February 13th, at the headquarters of Cítricos Caribe SA agricultural company in Havana, representatives of the Vietnamese government and AgriVMA rice production company handed over 250 tons of non-refundable aid rice to Cuba , in accordance with an agreement between the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Cuban Ministry of Agriculture.
Speaking at the event, Cuban Deputy Minister of Agriculture Telce Abdel González affirmed that Cuba will create all favorable conditions for the rice production project of Vietnam's Agri VMA enterprise in Los Palacios district, Pinar del Rio province, with the aim of replicating the production model in other localities of Cuba.
Deputy Minister Telce Abdel González highly appreciated Vietnamese businesses investing in agriculture in Cuba, contributing to boosting agricultural production and ensuring food security for Cuba. He also expressed his hope that Vietnamese agricultural businesses would continue to expand their investments in Cuba, not only in rice but also in the production of other agricultural products. Mr. Telce Abdel González affirmed that agricultural cooperation contributes to bringing bilateral economic cooperation to the same level as the good political relationship between the two countries.
For his part, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Quang Long emphasized the significance of the event, demonstrating the confidence of Vietnamese businesses investing in production in Cuba, despite the difficulties Cuba is currently experiencing. The continued production and expansion of Vietnamese businesses in Cuba is a testament to the special solidarity, friendship, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba.
Ambassador Le Quang Long thanked the Cuban Ministry of Agriculture for its timely support to Vietnamese businesses in the past and affirmed that promoting agricultural cooperation and supporting Cuba in ensuring food security has always received high attention from Vietnamese leaders.
Meanwhile, Mr. Dang Quang Thuy, Director of the AgriVMA rice project in Los Palacios district, Pinar del Río province, affirmed the company's determination to boost production in Cuba, thereby contributing to strengthening the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba.
Representatives from both sides signed a handover document for 250 tons of rice, the first batch of rice that Vietnam will deliver to Cuba in 2026 under the bilateral agreement. This is a product of the CT16 hybrid rice variety, with a yield of over 7 tons/ha, currently grown by AgriVMA on an area of more than 1,000 hectares in Los Palacios district, Pinar del Río province.
