Visual Capitalist's chart is based on the 2025 order book releases from aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Airbus, highlighting which airlines, leasing companies, and governments have ordered commercial aircraft.

This chart compiles the number of aircraft orders worldwide , as compiled by Visual Capitalist.
Accordingly, in 2025, Airbus and Boeing received orders for a total of 2,175 aircraft. Nearly one-fifth of these orders came from just three customers: Qatar Airways, VietJet , and Alaska Airlines. Qatar Airways led all named customers with 161 orders; Vietnam's Vietjet Air ranked second with 120 orders, ahead of Alaska Airlines, which came in third with 117 orders.
Visual Capitalist observes: With global air passenger numbers exceeding 2019 levels in many regions, airlines are investing heavily in new, more fuel-efficient aircraft. In Asia, airlines such as VietJet, Korean Air, and China Airlines are rapidly expanding their fleets. Meanwhile, US airlines like Alaska Airlines and WestJet are modernizing both domestic and cross-border routes.
As the travel industry recovers, the surge in demand indicates a positive outlook for the entire global aviation industry.
IATA forecasts that by 2026, passenger traffic will reach 9.971 billion, a 4.9% increase compared to 2025 globally, with an average seat occupancy rate of 83.8%, a 0.1 percentage point increase compared to 2025. Total passenger volume is projected to reach 4.458 billion, a 4.4% increase compared to 2025. This growth rate of nearly 5% compared to 2025 reflects strong demand for air travel.
Regarding freight transport, IATA forecasts global freight volume to reach $289.5 billion, a 2.6% increase compared to 2025, with a load factor of 46%, a 0.2 percentage point increase compared to the same period in 2025. Total cargo volume is estimated at 71.6 million tons, a 2.4% increase compared to 2025.
Vietnamese aviation leaders expressed pride that a Vietnamese airline is among the world's largest aircraft order-takers in 2025.
Over the years, Vietnam has focused on investing in and talking a lot about infrastructure, but the goal of becoming a global aviation hub will be difficult to achieve if Vietnam lacks a strong, modern transport fleet, high-quality and distinctive services, and especially if it does not have a global network of routes and high flight frequencies connecting the world.
Therefore, the event is considered a very positive signal for the entire industry, and also a driving force for competitive development for airlines in Vietnam. This is a golden opportunity for Vietnam to rise to the challenge and compete on equal footing with developed countries in the region and the world.
