Vietnam has achieved something unprecedented in its history of participating in the AFC U23 Asian Championship.

With a 1-0 victory over U23 Saudi Arabia in the final match of Group A at the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Championship, U23 Vietnam achieved something unprecedented in the history of their participation in the tournament.

This is the first time in history that the Vietnam U23 team has won all three group stage matches after six appearances in the AFC U23 Asian Championship. In the past, the best performance of the Vietnam U23 team in the group stage was 6 points. That was in the group stage of the 2024 AFC U23 Asian Championship. That year, the Vietnam U23 team finished second in their group with 6 points (two wins).

Previously, at the 2022 AFC U23 Championship, the Vietnam U23 team also reached the quarterfinals, finishing second in their group but with only 5 points.

That was the first tournament where the Vietnam U23 team remained undefeated in the group stage, but that record was broken by coach Kim Sang Sik's team at the 2026 AFC U23 Championship.

For the first time in history, the Vietnam U23 team has qualified for the quarterfinals with a perfect winning record.

At the 2018 AFC U23 Championship, the Vietnam U23 team advanced from the group stage with only 4 points. Notably, this was the tournament where the Vietnam U23 team reached the final.

With their impressive performance at the 2016 AFC U23 Championship, the Vietnam U23 team is expected to go far and even break their 2018 record.
