Vietnam - Laos prioritize connecting central seaports

Vietnam and Laos cooperate to develop central seaports and connect traffic to promote economy and enhance bilateral cooperation.

On December 2, Vietnamese Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh had a working session with Lao Minister of Public Works and Transport Leklay Sivilay at the headquarters of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Laos.

The working session took place within the framework of the program of General Secretary To Lam's State visit to Laos and attendance at the 50th Anniversary of Laos' National Day, co-chairing the annual meeting of the two Politburoes ; and the program of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh co-chairing the 48th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee.

Here, Minister Tran Hong Minh and Minister Leklay Sivilay discussed the implementation of key transport infrastructure projects connecting Vietnam and Laos, specifically the Hanoi -Vientiane expressway project and the Vung Ang-Vientiane railway.

Notably, the Investment Cooperation Project to develop berths 1, 2 and 3 of Vung Ang port, with berth number 3 officially inaugurated and put into operation, was acknowledged and commented by the two Ministers, as a vivid demonstration of the policy of the Party, Government and People of Vietnam for the Lao People to "help Laos have a sea."

Regarding this, Minister Tran Hong Minh suggested that, with the success of the cooperation project at Vung Ang port, Laos needs to develop a complete and connected transport system, prioritizing road connections to the system of seaports in Central Vietnam, including Vung Ang port, creating economic momentum, increasing the circulation of Lao goods to the region and reaching out to the world.

Tomorrow, December 3, according to the Prime Minister's working program, Minister Tran Hong Minh will attend the 48th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee co-chaired by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh./.
