This afternoon, in response to VietNamNet's question about Vietnam's reaction to the tense developments that have broken out between Cambodia and Thailand in the border area between the two countries, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated: "Vietnam expresses deep concern about the current tense developments between Cambodia and Thailand."
As a neighboring country and a fellow ASEAN member, Vietnam calls on both sides to exercise utmost restraint, not to use force, fully implement the ceasefire agreement, continue dialogue, peacefully and satisfactorily resolve disagreements on the basis of fundamental principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) and in the spirit of ASEAN friendship and solidarity, contributing to the maintenance of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

The spokesman said: "Vietnam will continue to actively contribute to promoting dialogue and implementing the ceasefire agreement between the two countries to soon restore peace and cooperation on the border in the spirit of ASEAN friendship and solidarity, for the long-term interests of both sides and the region."
During talks with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet this morning, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always pays attention, closely follows and will continue to contribute to peaceful solutions to resolve tensions; and called on Thailand and Cambodia to exercise restraint, engage in dialogue, respect each other's legitimate interests and comply with the peace agreement.
Vietnam always values and supports efforts to resolve all disagreements by peaceful means; believes that long-term stability is the best solution for both Cambodia and Thailand, for ASEAN solidarity, for a peaceful, stable, cooperative and developing environment in the region and the world.
Over the weekend, there were several clashes between the two countries' forces at the Thai-Cambodian border. The Thai military deployed F-16 fighter jets.
Following the escalation of border tensions, both Cambodia and Thailand simultaneously carried out large-scale evacuations and closed hundreds of schools in at-risk areas.
Thailand and Cambodia fought a border clash in July that left many dead and injured. The two sides later signed a peace agreement in Kuala Lumpur on October 26, witnessed by US President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
