Bộ trưởng Bộ Công Thương Nguyễn Hồng Diên nhìn nhận nước ta đang đứng trước nhiều vận hội để phát triển ngành logistics.
Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien acknowledged that our country is facing many opportunities to develop the logistics industry.

Logistics costs remain the main bottleneck

This information was announced by Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien at the Vietnam Logistics Forum 2025 with the theme "Vietnam Logistics - Reaching into the new era" taking place in Da Nang .

According to the Minister of Industry and Trade, our country currently has the advantage of being located in a dynamically developing region of the world, where there is a concentrated flow of goods, strong exchange and an economy with a large openness of 200% compared to the scale of GDP.

Although currently ranked 3rd in ASEAN and 32nd in the world, in terms of international trade scale, our country is in the top 20 and top 15 in attracting FDI.

With these advantages, along with a large consumer market with a domestic market of over 100 million people and an export market of nearly 6 billion consumers in 17 signed and implemented FTAs, import-export turnover and e-commerce have always grown at double-digit rates in the past 5-6 years.

Of which, the size of Vietnam's logistics service market is about 45-50 billion USD, equivalent to 10% of GDP and 5% of import-export turnover.

Although developing at a double-digit growth rate for many years, the Minister acknowledged that the development of Vietnam's logistics service industry is not commensurate with the country's potential and advantages.

Some bottlenecks such as logistics costs are still high compared to other countries in the region, leading to low competitiveness, regional connectivity, and unsynchronized infrastructure connections...

According to Mr. Dao Trong Khoa, Chairman of the Vietnam Logistics Services Association, the Vietnamese logistics services industry still has many barriers, such as high logistics costs and unsynchronized infrastructure and multimodal transport.

In addition, businesses are small, fragmented, lack leading "pioneer businesses", and do not have a common industry database...

Chi phí logistics của Việt Nam khá cao so với các quốc gia xung quanh.
Vietnam's logistics costs are quite high compared to surrounding countries.

The Central region has the advantage of a "green corridor" in agricultural exports.

At this workshop, many experts commented that it is necessary to soon have synchronous, strong and feasible solutions to unlock resources and promote the development of this important service industry.

Especially removing "bottlenecks" for development not commensurate with potential.

Taking the Central region as an example, Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), acknowledged that this place holds many advantages in forming a logistics linkage axis in the Central region, especially when forming the Da Nang Free Trade Zone.

In addition to its strategic location connecting the North-South corridor in the country and the East-West economic corridor connecting with neighboring countries, the Central region has seaports and airports.

However, if we look frankly, the goods source in the Central region is still limited, the infrastructure is not yet synchronized; the scale of seaports and airports in the Central region is both small and not yet connected.

In order for the Central region to become a logistics development pole and Da Nang to be the logistics center of the Central region, Mr. Hai proposed that it is possible to establish a joint executive board to link logistics in the Central region to build unified inter-regional logistics, creating convenience for transit goods.

In addition, it is necessary to continue reforming customs procedures to make the Central region a "green corridor" for agricultural exports and promote cross-border e-commerce...

Rising Star

According to Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, by 2025, Vietnam will be evaluated and ranked by international organizations in the Top 10 emerging logistics markets, Top 4 in the region in terms of Logistics Opportunity Index and Top 5 in ASEAN, Top 40 in the world in terms of Logistics Performance Index.

The Minister aims to strive for the next 10 years to build and develop sustainable and effective Vietnamese logistics services, gradually realizing the goal of making Vietnam a strong logistics country.
