Vietnam and Nicaragua strengthen cooperation in the fields of culture, information, sports, and tourism.

On January 19th, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong met and worked with the Ambassador of Nicaragua to Vietnam, Mario Armengol Campos, to discuss directions for bilateral cooperation in the fields of culture, information, sports, and tourism.

Also attending, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism were Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa Mai, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration; Mr. Tran Nhat Hoang, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department; Ms. Dang Thi Phuong Thao, Deputy Director of the Press Department; and Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen, Deputy Director of the Broadcasting, Television and Electronic Information Department. On behalf of the Nicaraguan Embassy were Ms. Lwanda Palacios Bermudez, Counselor, and embassy staff.

Welcoming Nicaraguan Ambassador to Vietnam Mario Armengol Campos to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong expressed his pleasure that Nicaragua will re-establish its embassy in Hanoi in 2024, marking a new chapter in the traditional friendship between the two countries.

The Deputy Minister shared that Vietnam is currently entering a new era with impressive economic achievements, overcoming difficult periods due to the impact of natural disasters, floods, and global security and political instability. By 2025, Vietnam aims for an economic growth rate of approximately 8%, an economic size exceeding US$500 billion, per capita income exceeding US$5,000, and total export turnover exceeding US$900 billion.

The Deputy Minister affirmed that, in this development, culture has always been considered a guiding light and a driving force for Vietnam's sustainable growth. Vietnam implements a policy of multilateralism and diversification of relations and is a reliable partner of the international community. This is a favorable foundation for expanding international exchanges, with Nicaragua being an important partner in the Latin American region. The Deputy Minister expressed his desire to strengthen relations with Nicaragua in the fields of culture and tourism to bridge the geographical distance between the two countries.

Ambassador Mario Armengol Campos thanked the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for taking the time to receive the delegation, and highly appreciated the Ministry's coordination and support for the activities of the Nicaraguan Embassy in Vietnam in the past. Affirming that culture is an important bridge in diplomacy, the Ambassador expressed his desire to promote deeper cooperation with Vietnam, focusing on strengthening cultural exchanges, artistic exchanges, and introducing the traditional cultural values ​​of both countries. Besides artistic exchanges, Nicaragua has begun connecting businesses in the cultural sector, such as bringing the Vietnamese brand Hanh Silk to participate in the "Nicaragua Diseña" exhibition – a prestigious art and fashion event in Nicaragua.

In the field of tourism, both sides acknowledged the outstanding results achieved recently, with Nicaragua actively participating in cultural events organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and attending major tourism fairs in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Nicaragua committed to maintaining its presence at these events in 2026 to promote the image of "the land of lakes and volcanoes" to the Vietnamese people and international friends.

In the field of journalism and media, the Ambassador emphasized the important role of disseminating official information, expressing a desire to strengthen cooperation to develop a professional and modern press; promoting exchanges between media agencies of the two countries to share experiences, thereby contributing to spreading information about Vietnam and Nicaragua to a wider audience in both countries.

Recognizing Vietnam's strengths in training for Olympic sports and football, the Ambassador expressed his desire for Nicaragua to have the opportunity to learn from Vietnam's training experience and proposed that the two sides consider signing training programs and exchanging experts and athletes. The Ambassador affirmed Nicaragua's readiness to participate in sporting events organized by Vietnam and vice versa.

To realize these goals, the Nicaraguan Ambassador to Vietnam proposed formalizing the cooperative relationship through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) covering four areas: Culture, Tourism, Sports, and Information. Based on this, the relevant agencies of both countries will coordinate the implementation of specific projects, from human resource training to organizing national-scale events.

During the meeting, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, Nguyen Thi Hoa Mai, expressed support for the two countries strengthening information exchange and mutual support in activities promoting tourism and tourist exchanges. Emphasizing that tourism is one of the shortest ways to connect the people of the two countries, Deputy Director General Nguyen Thi Hoa Mai suggested that the Embassy, ​​together with the tourism management agencies of both countries, actively exchange information and tourism policies, connect tours through reputable travel companies, and create more favorable conditions regarding visa policies to enhance tourist exchanges between the two countries.

To contribute to promoting cooperation and sharing information about Nicaragua's country, culture, and people with the Vietnamese people, Deputy Director of the Press Department Dang Thi Phuong Thao suggested that the Embassy provide images and detailed information to promote the country, as well as boost media activities on social media platforms. In addition, organizing workshops and presentations about Nicaragua's country, culture, people, and cuisine is extremely practical in attracting the attention of tourists.
