Uzbekistan Akira Ijiri and his team said goodbye to the U20 Women's Asian Championship after three consecutive losses against Japan, North Korea and China.
In the final group stage match this afternoon, Vietnam lost 1-6 to China. This was a predictable result, when the team faced the fourth strongest women's football team in Asia and 19th in the world .
In the first half, coach Ijiri's team was behind 0-3. After the break, Vietnam played hard and shortened the score in the 74th minute. From a pass over the line, striker Ngoc Minh Chuyen eliminated two central defenders and then defeated the Chinese goalkeeper. This was also Vietnam's first goal in this tournament.
Due to exhaustion, the team could not resist and conceded three more goals from the 76th to 80th minutes.

This result saw Vietnam exit the tournament with a goal difference of -20, while China was also eliminated with only four points. North Korea (seven points) and Japan (five points) won two tickets to the quarter-finals.
In the opening match on March 4, Vietnam was completely outclassed and lost 0-10 to defending champion Japan - a team with many players who were runners-up at the 2022 U20 Women's World Cup. In the second match, the team lost 0-6 to North Korea. Despite having one more player in the second half when the North Korean captain received a red card, Coach Ijiri's students could not make up for the difference in expertise and physique.
The AFC U20 Women's Championship takes place from March 3 to 16 in Uzbekistan. Grouped with three of the continent's top teams, Vietnam's main goal from the start was to learn and gain experience for the young team.
In addition, the cold weather also somewhat affected Vietnam’s performance. Players often had to wear gloves and drink hot ginger tea to keep warm on the snow-covered field.
