According to the Customs Department, in the first 6 months of the year, Vietnam's rice exports reached a record (considering the same period in previous years) of more than 4.7 million tons, with a turnover of 2.44 billion USD, up 3.6% in volume but down 15.4% in turnover compared to the same period in 2024. The average export price of rice in the first 6 months of the year reached 517 USD/ton, down sharply by 18.3% (equivalent to 116 USD/ton) compared to the same period last year.
With this result, Vietnam's exports have surpassed Thailand's by 1 million tons to rise to the second position in global rice exports after India. According to data from the Thai Ministry of Commerce, Thailand's rice exports in the first 6 months of the year only reached 3.65 million tons of rice, worth 2.2 billion USD, down nearly 29% in volume and 33.2% in value compared to the figure of 5.13 million tons, worth 3.3 billion USD in the same period last year.
In a recent report, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) forecast that Thailand's rice exports will fall to a multi-year low of just 7 million tons in 2025 compared to 9.9 million tons in 2024. Meanwhile, Vietnam's rice exports are forecast at 7.9 million tons and India's at 25 million tons.
