Vietnam - Uruguay agree on many contents on trade cooperation

Although the total import-export turnover between the two countries in 2022 reached 190.5 million USD, a sharp increase of 106.5% compared to 2021; of which Vietnam's exports to Uruguay reached 102.9 million USD, an increase of 76.7%, Vietnam's imports from Uruguay reached 87.6 million USD, an increase of 157.2%.

However, at the 3rd Session of the Joint Committee on Economic, Trade and Investment Cooperation between Vietnam and Uruguay, which was recently held online in Hanoi and Montevideo, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai and Uruguayan Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicolás Albertoni both co-chaired the meeting, saying that bilateral trade relations are still not commensurate with the existing potential between the two countries. Therefore, the two sides emphasized the need to continue promoting cooperation within bilateral and multilateral frameworks, diversifying the structure of import and export products, and stepping up trade promotion activities, connecting trade, and supporting the business community to explore markets and seek business opportunities. At the meeting, the two sides discussed the cooperation situation between Vietnam and Uruguay in the fields of economy, trade, investment, finance, agriculture, science and technology, reviewed the results achieved since the 2nd Meeting of the Joint Committee held in October 2021 and discussed and proposed work contents to be implemented in the coming time to promote bilateral cooperation. Regarding agricultural cooperation, the parties welcomed the establishment of direct contact points to continue exchanging technical issues in the licensing process for potential agricultural products to enter each other's markets.
In addition, many new cooperation contents were proposed such as cooperation in the fields of food safety, customs, science and technology, software, wood exploitation and processing... At the end of the meeting, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay Nicolás Albertoni agreed to continue to coordinate closely to effectively implement the contents agreed at the meeting towards the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
