In the semi-finals of the 2024 Carom 3-Cushion World Team Championship, two players Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh defeated the US team 2-1. The opponents of the two Vietnamese players in the final match were the duo Ruben Legazpi (ranked 26th)/Sergio Jimenez (ranked 188th) of Spain.
Entering the final match, Bao Phuong Vinh continuously led with a large gap when meeting Sergio Jimenez. After leading 13-2, the Vietnamese representative went on to win 11 points to enter the break with a score of 29-11.
The score gap was so large that Bao Phuong Vinh played with a relaxed mentality, while his opponent had difficulties. Phuong Vinh reached 39 points in the 14th turn and ended the match in the 19th turn with a score of 40 - 22.
Meanwhile, the match between Tran Quyet Chien and Ruben Legazpi was more tense. The world number 2 player started the match with a series of 11 points, but then continuously missed opportunities in the next 10 shots and let his opponent take the lead with a score of 20 - 12 before the break. Ruben Legazpi maintained the advantage until the end of the game, when Quyet Chien equalized to 36 - 36.
At this point, Ruben Legazpi got to 39 and 40 points first, but Tran Quyet Chien still had a chance at the back-start. However, he only successfully executed 2 points and had to lose with a score of 38 - 40.
In the tie-break, the Spanish duo had a better start with 4 points, but the Vietnamese pair showed their understanding when they led 6-4 and then 9-5. At 11-5, Quyet Chien had a shot that caused the yellow ball to jump off the table, a situation that rarely happens in carom. The opponent took advantage of the opportunity to tie the score at 11-11.

In a difficult moment, Quyet Chien shined with a classy shot to raise the score to 12 - 11. When the score was 13 - 11, Phuong Vinh was unlucky when he was "kicked". But he had a chance right after that to end the match when Quyet Chien had an accurate long shot. The young player made a long-short-long shot according to the formula, but the ball unfortunately went past the target. After that, Quyet Chien also missed the target.
The two Spanish players took advantage of the opportunity to tie the score at 14-14, but still missed the chance to win the championship.
Finally, Bao Phuong Vinh had 3 straight balls at 3 ends and he did his job well with a 3-cushion shot to score the deciding point, winning 15-14 in the tie-break and helping the Vietnamese team win the overall championship.
