Vietnam Airlines Group advises passengers to proactively monitor flight schedules during the period leading up to the Lunar New Year due to the impact of fog at some airports in northern and north-central Vietnam.

According to airlines, from now until February 28, 2026, the northern and north-central regions of Vietnam will experience characteristic weather conditions with thick fog, drizzle, and limited visibility, especially in the early morning and late at night. Airports such as Cat Bi ( Hai Phong ), Tho Xuan (Thanh Hoa), Vinh (Nghe An), Dong Hoi (Quang Binh), and Phu Bai (Hue) will frequently record low visibility, directly affecting takeoff and landing operations.

This Tet holiday, Vietnam Airlines Group plans to operate more than 1,300 night flights from February 1st to March 3rd, 2026, providing nearly 300,000 seats to meet the increased travel demand. For a smoother journey, passengers should check in online within 24 hours before departure via the website, mobile app, VNeID, call center, or self-check-in counters at the airport. Biometric technology helps shorten waiting times, especially for passengers without checked baggage, contributing to reducing congestion at airports during Tet.

In unfavorable weather conditions, flights may have to delay departure, wait for improved visibility, or be diverted to land at an alternate airport. Vietnam Airlines Group stated that operational safety is always the highest priority and all flight operation decisions are made in strict compliance with international safety procedures and standards.

Airlines also noted that when flights to airports affected by fog cannot take off or land as planned, the overall flight schedule may change due to the ripple effect, impacting the departure times of many flights throughout the day. Vietnam Airlines Group is closely monitoring weather developments and coordinating closely with air traffic control authorities to develop flexible operational plans to minimize the impact on passengers.

Airlines recommend that passengers regularly check flight status via website, mobile app, call center, or official channels before going to the airport, and arrive earlier than usual, especially for early morning and late night flights.
