Compared to the previous Tet holiday season, the number of night flights during Tet 2026 increased by 3% and accounted for approximately 16.6% of the total flights operated by the airline, marking a positive effort by Vietnam Airlines in meeting the increased travel demand of passengers during the biggest holiday of the year.

Night flights depart after 9:00 PM and before 5:00 AM the following morning, focusing on the Hanoi /Ho Chi Minh City – Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City – Hai Phong/Vinh/Tho Xuan, Ho Chi Minh City – Hue/Cam Ranh routes (added during the peak Tet holiday season), and the Ho Chi Minh City – Buon Ma Thuot route (added during the peak Tet holiday season). The airline will use Airbus A321 and Airbus A320neo aircraft for most of these routes. For the Ho Chi Minh City – Hanoi route, the airline will also use modern wide-body Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 aircraft.

During peak periods, the frequency of flights on each route is expected to increase by an average of 1-2 pairs of flights per day compared to normal periods, thereby contributing to more travel options for passengers and reducing pressure during daytime hours.

Vietnam Airlines' increased night flights are being implemented as the Vietnamese aviation industry simultaneously optimizes its operational plans for the Tet holiday. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has requested relevant units to coordinate the implementation of night flights at six airports, with the application period from February 1, 2026 to March 1, 2026.

Specifically, the airports whose operating hours have been extended include Tho Xuan, Dong Hoi, Chu Lai, Phu Cat, Pleiku, and Tuy Hoa, in order to increase the capacity to serve night flights and ensure safe and efficient operations during peak periods.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines, said: “Increasing night flights is one of the solutions to serve passenger demand during peak periods, while also contributing to reducing the burden on the system under conditions where infrastructure and slots at some key airports are limited. As the national airline, Vietnam Airlines proactively increases night flights on key routes, ensuring convenient and safe travel during Tet and meeting the increased travel demand of people during the 2026 Lunar New Year.”

Previously, to meet the travel needs of people during the Tet holiday, Vietnam Airlines opened early ticket sales. Accordingly, more than 3.5 million seats were offered for sale across its domestic and international flight network from February 2nd to March 3rd, 2026, an increase of nearly 20% compared to the same period last year.

Alongside the early ticket sales, Vietnam Airlines continuously increased its capacity during the peak period, adding 60,000 seats on nearly 300 flights, concentrated from February 9th to March 3rd, 2026 (i.e., from the 22nd day of the 12th lunar month to the 15th day of the 1st lunar month). The routes with increased capacity mainly depart from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, Vinh, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Da Nang , Hue, Chu Lai, Buon Ma Thuot, Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, Quy Nhon, and Phu Quoc.

At the same time, Vietnam Airlines launched four new routes departing from Hai Phong, including Hai Phong – Nha Trang, Can Tho, Buon Ma Thuot, and Phu Quoc, contributing to meeting diverse travel needs and reducing pressure on main routes during Tet.

Vietnam Airlines Group recommends that passengers proactively plan and book tickets early to ensure a suitable itinerary, and also advises that tickets should only be purchased through official ticket offices, agents, or on the airline's mobile app and website to avoid the risk of counterfeit tickets or inflated prices during peak seasons.

Passengers can easily purchase tickets and find information through the website www.vietnamairlines.com, the “Vietnam Airlines” mobile application, the Zalo account https://zalo.me/3149253679280388721, the official Vietnam Airlines Facebook Fanpage, ticket offices, official agents, or by contacting the Customer Service Hotline 1900 1100.
