Viettel marathon 2024 officially opens in Laos, bringing unprecedented attraction

The first season of Viettel Marathon kicked off with a race in Luang Prabang, a famous tourist city in Laos. About 5,000 people are expected to participate in the race in Laos on November 3, with distances of marathon (42.195 km), half marathon (21.1 km), 10 km and 5 km.

The Viettel Marathon series was launched with the first leg in Luang Prabang, attracting great attention from the running community in Laos. Notably, this is also the first time in Luang Prabang that a major flat-track race will be held with a distance of 42.195 km.

Laos stage attracts about 5,000 athletes

The race attracts the attention of local people and international tourists who come to Luang Prang to travel at the time considered the most beautiful here. The support of the authorities at all levels promises to create an international-class race, different from the races that have been held in the ancient capital of Luang Prabang.

Ms. Kieu Thi Hang Phuc - Consul General of Vietnam in Luang Prabang shared: "I am very happy and proud to witness a major sports event like the Viettel marathon event held in Laos. Vietnam's initiation and organization of this marathon has affirmed Vietnam's position in the region, demonstrating creative ideas, the ability to organize and run a major event. This Viettel marathon is not only a regular sports event, but also a great bridge for people of the two countries to exchange, connect, and understand each other better, in order to foster and build a great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries and two peoples that will forever be green and everlasting."

Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Member of the Asian Athletics Council, Vice President of the Southeast Asian Athletics Association, Vice President of the Southeast Asian Athletics Federation, General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation, commented: "I would like to thank the Lao Olympic Committee, the leaders of Luang Prabang province, and Viettel Group for helping us organize the race. We want to promote the best images to international friends, as well as boost the economy at the race venues."

Viettel Marathon 2024 receives great attention and support from authorities

Meanwhile, Mr. Bach Tien Tuan, Deputy General Director of Viettel Telecom Corporation, said: "Viettel is honored to be the companion unit to organize Viettel Marathon 2024 - the first race hosted by Vietnam taking place in 3 Indochinese countries. On behalf of Viettel, I would like to thank the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, ministries, branches, Vietnam Athletics Federation, Lao Athletics Federation, and the Vietnamese Consulate General in Luang Prabang for supporting and accompanying Viettel to create a healthy playground for Lao people in particular and athletes from many countries around the world."

It is expected that after the Laos leg, the capital Hanoi of Vietnam will be the second destination of the race with about 10,000 participants (December 1, 2024). Next, in the third leg, Siem Reap of Cambodia will be the host, held on December 22, 2024 at Angkor Wat, the famous world natural heritage complex of this country.
