On the evening of December 6, the Vietnamese pickleball community received extremely good news after Ly Hoang Nam easily won the men's singles title. This was the first time Vietnam had a pair of doubles champions at PPA Asia.
The two people who opened that miracle were none other than former tennis player Do Minh Quan and one-time tennis talent Truong Vinh Hien. They won convincingly against the number 1 seed pair.
The pair Federico Staksrud (Argentina) - Armaan Bhatia (India) are rated the highest. Staksrud is the number 2 singles player, top 5 men's doubles player in PPA Ranking.
The two had a good coordination in game 1 against the Vietnamese athletes at the gymnasium in Hangzhou (China).
Game 1 ended spectacularly when the number 1 seeded pair won 12-10. Staksrud had 2 game-point attempts to end the game but was stopped by Minh Quan and Vinh Hien in a thrilling match.
At one point, the opponents led by a series of 6 points. The effort of the 8th seed pair almost succeeded at the 10th point.
Game 2 was the time for the "grandfather - grandson pickleball" pair Minh Quan - Vinh Hien. Although they are 20 years apart in age (41 vs. 21), their understanding and complementary techniques are very impressive. It is no coincidence that on the way to the final, they defeated the number 2 seed, Connor Garnett.
The Staksrud pair led 6-3 thanks to many "live dink" ball movements to change the tempo of the game and find loopholes. The consultation at this point helped Minh Quan and his teammates slow down the opponent's performance. Minh Quan continued to score points with impressive ATP shots in box number 1.
The equalizer at 6-6 was very good when Vinh Hien saw a gap in Bhatia's court. Then, instead of attacking at the net like in game 1, the Vietnamese pair played more diversely with lobs, drop shots, and down the line shots. Thanks to that, they won this game 11-6. A very good game for the Vietnamese pair.

The most impressive scene in Game 3 was Vinh Hien "carrying" veteran Minh Quan when the score was 2-1. The "old man" played so hard that he sat down on the field to defend. Meanwhile, Vinh Hien played a comprehensive attack and defense, then smashed a powerful ball close to his hand to close out a great play, the audience applauded a lot.
Not stopping there, with the Triton5 racket in hand, Vinh Hien had a tiring but powerful "smash" game to bring the score close to the finish line. More tense after a "call-out", Vinh Hien immediately received 2 unapologetic body shots from his opponent. The final score of game 3 was 11-5.
This is the first time a Vietnamese pair has won the PPA Tour Asia championship. Previously, Vietnamese athletes could only win the men's singles, respectively Trinh Linh Giang, Phuc Huynh, Truong Vinh Hien and this time Ly Hoang Nam.
As for Vinh Hien, he is the first tennis player to win two separate events when he won the men's singles title at the PPA Tour Australia recently and this time the men's doubles title at the Hangzhou Open.
