During the technology transfer process, experts from Cho Ray Hospital and the team from the Oncology Department - Vinh Long General Hospital practiced radiotherapy techniques on 6 real cases.
Of these, there was 1 case of adjuvant radiotherapy for meningioma, 2 cases of radiotherapy for breast cancer after mastectomy and lymph node dissection, 2 cases of radiotherapy for breast cancer after breast-conserving surgery, and 1 case of radiotherapy for breast cancer after mastectomy and axillary lymph node dissection with breast reconstruction.
The implementation of radiotherapy at Vinh Long General Hospital not only helps people in the province and the Mekong Delta region access modern cancer treatment methods right in the locality, but also contributes to reducing the burden on upper-level hospitals, saving time and treatment costs for patients.
This is also an opportunity for local medical staff to directly access new techniques from leading experts, improve their professional qualifications and ability to master high-tech equipment.

Previously, the hospital had deployed many specialized treatment techniques in oncology such as mastectomy, axillary lymph node dissection, chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy. The addition of radiotherapy has completed the closed cancer treatment chain at the hospital, from diagnosis-surgery-chemotherapy-radiotherapy-supportive care.
To ensure sustainable deployment capacity, the hospital has invested in modern facilities and machinery, including linear accelerators, 3D-CRT, IMRT and VMAT radiation therapy planning software systems, and radiation treatment areas that meet radiation safety standards.
At the same time, human resources are also standardized with a team of 7 oncologists and nurses, engineers and technicians who have received intensive training.
