Seasonal flu virus is making many people sick

On November 23, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said it is currently assessing the cause of the increase in the number of acute respiratory infections in children in recent months.

Test results from OUCRU show that no unusual agents are currently recorded. The agents found through testing include seasonal influenza virus, RSV, Enterovirus and bacteria H. Influenza, Strep. pneumonia, Mycoplasma pneumonia are also common respiratory pathogens in recent years in Ho Chi Minh City.

Experts say these viruses are common causes of respiratory infections. Most cases are mild and can be treated as outpatients. Although the number of cases visiting medical facilities has increased in the last months of 2023, the surveillance system has not recorded any outbreaks of respiratory infections in schools in recent months.

The increase in respiratory infections in recent months in Ho Chi Minh City is a common cyclical phenomenon in children. The causative agent has not changed, mainly common viruses.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, most viral respiratory infections only require symptomatic treatment and will heal on their own. Cases of pneumonia or underlying medical conditions need to be hospitalized for proper and timely diagnosis and treatment to prevent serious complications and limit mortality.
