VN-Index continues to set new historical highs.

The VN-Index continued to rise today (May 18th), reaching a new historical high of 1,927 points, breaking the previous record of 1,925 points set on May 14th.

At the close of trading, the VN-Index rose 6.34 points (+0.33%) to 1,927.94 points. This is the highest level in history. On the HoSE exchange, there were 135 gainers and 178 losers, with a total trading volume of 820.7 million units and a value of 26,658 billion VND, an increase of 10.2% in volume and 15.64% in value compared to the end of last week's trading session.

The VN30 group closed the session with only a slight decrease of 4 points, with 13 stocks rising and 16 falling. The highlight was the pair of large-cap bank stocks: VCB rose 4.1% with a trading volume of 18.9 million units, and BID rose 5% with a trading volume of over 17.4 million units. Together, these two stocks contributed more than 8.5 points to the overall index.

In terms of sectors, energy remains the market leader. Energy stock PLX continued its strong performance, closing the session with a 7% increase to 45,150 VND/share, with a trading volume of 11.4 million units and a buy order at the ceiling price of 1.7 million units.

Other stocks in the same sector in this top list include BSR, which also briefly showed a purple hue and closed the session up 5.4% with trading volume reaching approximately 20.9 million units, and GAS, which increased 4% to 93,000 VND/share.

The banking sector stocks closed up 1.3% thanks to strong support, but the rest traded less favorably. Among them,SHB , the most liquid stock in the banking sector with over 44 million units traded, still ended slightly down 0.7% at 13,800 VND/share.

The securities sector also performed positively as proactive buying pressure emerged, helping HCM surge 3%, SSI edge up 0.9%, and VIX increase 1.33%.

Meanwhile, the stocks with the biggest declines were MWG, down 3.7%, VRE, down 2.6%, and VHM, down 2.5%, while the remaining stocks fell by around 1%.

On the HNX exchange, there were 79 gainers and 69 losers, with the HNX-Index rising 1.83 points (+0.71%) to 259.25 points. The total trading volume reached over 98.4 million units, valued at 1,939 billion VND, an increase of 58% in volume and 78% in value compared to the previous session.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index fell 0.5 points (-0.4%) to 125.9 points today. The total trading volume reached nearly 51.5 million units, with a value of 671 billion VND.

Foreign investors continued to heavily net sell approximately 680 billion VND, focusing on stocks such asACB ( 170 billion VND), HPG (135 billion VND), and VHM (73 billion VND).

Conversely, significant foreign capital inflows have been directed towards several bank stocks such as VCB, MSB, and HDB.
