The play "Tran Nhan Tong" marks a breakthrough in traditional theatrical art, boldly combining Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) and circus arts. This is a fresh experiment, promising a more modern and engaging perspective on this great historical figure, especially aimed at attracting younger audiences. The play focuses on the period from King Tran Nhan Tong's birth to his adulthood, ascension to the throne, and his leadership of the Tran dynasty in defeating the Mongol invaders.
People's Artist Tong Toan Thang - Director of the Vietnam Circus Federation - who directed the performance "Tran Nhan Tong," said that the idea for the show had been conceived more than three years ago, partly because the Vietnam Circus Federation is located on Tran Nhan Tong Street, a place associated with many cultural and spiritual values. The performance will first be staged at the Central Circus Theater, with its open square space, allowing for the maximum exploitation of performance techniques such as trampolines, acrobatics, net climbing, juggling, etc., combined with a modern lighting, sound, and projection system.

The play "Tran Nhan Tong" reflects the stages from Crown Prince Tran Kham to King Tran Tran Tong, to the Retired Emperor Tran Nhan Tong, then to his renunciation of worldly life and eventual attainment of Nirvana. The play focuses on his reign to portray him as a wise ruler and the spirit of national unity in defeating the Mongol invaders. At the height of the Tran dynasty's glory, Tran Nhan Tong decided to become a monk, handing over the reins of power to his son.

Co-director of the play "Tran Nhan Tong," Meritorious Artist Tran Quang Khai shared: "The entire creative team's desire is to create an artistic work that is entertaining and relatable to young audiences. Through the play, we also express the spirit of national unity, especially the wise King of Vietnam. Over thousands of years, the ideas of Emperor Tran Nhan Tong, especially the wise King Tran Nhan Tong, have brought us precious values in social life. For this work, we have prepared meticulously in terms of script, music, choreography, language, and especially the blending of circus and Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) to tell the story. We must ensure that when the audience comes to see it, they are not watching a circus or Cai Luong performance, but rather experiencing an artistic work that builds the image of King Tran Nhan Tong."

As a young audience member, Nguyen Phuc Nam Duong (25 years old, Hanoi ) said: "After watching the performance, I felt that Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) gave me a nostalgic auditory experience, while the circus delighted me visually. When both art forms are combined on the same stage, this work successfully captivated the senses, not just mine. For traditional Cai Luong performances, many young people probably aren't very enthusiastic because the lyrics and melodies aren't quite as relatable to their entertainment tastes. But when combined with circus, I think this traditional theatrical form promises to attract a wider audience."
