The Tonkin snub-nosed monkey is a primate endemic to Tuyen Quang province. |
Previously, the Tonkin snub-nosed monkey was also recorded in special-use forests such as Tat Ke - Ban Bung, Cham Chu, but since 2011 it has not been recorded; the Tonkin snub-nosed monkey was also recorded in Tung Vai forest, but has not been recorded since 2021. According to experts, the main cause of the decline is believed to be hunting and the construction of large hydropower plants, in addition to other causes such as deforestation, cardamom cultivation, construction, and reduction of the food chain...
Another possible reason for the disappearance or lack of sightings is that the remaining population of Tonkin snub-nosed monkeys is so small that they are very cautious of any noise, leaving little opportunity to observe them.
According to the Provincial Forest Protection Department, to conserve the Tonkin snub-nosed monkey, an endangered, precious, rare and endemic primate species of Tuyen Quang province, we need to identify hotspots for hunting, transporting, trading, trading, slaughtering and illegally raising wild animals; strengthen patrolling and forest product management in communes, especially in forests where Tonkin snub-nosed monkeys live; continue to strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to protect Tonkin snub-nosed monkeys; promptly prevent and handle violations of hunting, trapping and capturing wild animals in the natural environment.
