In recent days, upon hearing the news that many areas in the old Binh Thuan (now Lam Dong province) were submerged in floodwaters, many people in the eastern part of Dak Lak - which had just suffered heavy damage in the recent historic flood - personally collected bags of rice, boxes of instant noodles, and bottles of water to send to this place.
The trucks that travel hundreds of kilometers not only carry goods and necessities, but also carry the spirit of sharing and solidarity with fellow countrymen in difficult days.
Contribute each package of noodles and bottle of water
In Nam Binh 2 neighborhood (Dong Hoa ward), Ms. Tran Thi Nha said: "Seeing information in the press as well as on social networks, I saw that many areas in Phan Thiet were deeply flooded, some places were isolated, I felt so sorry so I ran to the beginning of the neighborhood to buy 10 boxes of instant noodles to send to help the people there."
Knowing that Ms. Nha was collecting relief goods, people in Nam Binh 2 neighborhood also joined hands, some with rice, some with milk, some with gas money, etc. In just one morning, Ms. Nha's house was filled with necessities.

That kindness not only comes from the people in Nam Binh 2 but also spreads throughout other rural areas in the Eastern region of Dak Lak. In particular, this deep sympathy comes from the losses that the people have experienced, when they had to suffer severe consequences from the historic flood from November 18 to 20.
During the recent flood, many houses in Ngoc Lam 1 village (Hoa My commune) were flooded more than 2 meters deep. The whole village has over 460 households, more than 90% of which had their houses flooded, rice seeds damaged, livestock swept away. Without timely relief from the local government and the sympathy of the people of the whole country, the people here will have a very difficult time stabilizing their lives.
The rain that lasted from the night of December 3 to the early morning of December 4 caused heavy damage to people in many places in the old Binh Thuan area (now Lam Dong province), with more than 1,700 houses submerged in floodwaters. |
Ms. Phan Thi My Le, a resident of Ngoc Lam 1 village, shared: "In the past few days, hearing that many areas in the old Binh Thuan are submerged in floodwaters, we feel like we are seeing again our own difficult situation just a few weeks ago. That is why we feel even more compassion and want to share with those who are in trouble."
From that sympathy, after only a few hours of Ms. Le's campaign, people joined hands, hundreds of kilos of rice, boxes of noodles, drinking water... were gathered at her house on the afternoon of December 5. Among those who contributed was Mrs. Thai Thi Kim Guong, over 70 years old, whose house was makeshift but still brought a few kilos of rice and noodles. "My hometown is also miserable, but hearing that old Binh Thuan was heavily flooded, I also wanted to send back some of the relief gifts I received a few days ago. Our grandparents used to say, a piece of food when hungry is worth a package when full," Mrs. Guong smiled toothlessly.
By the morning of December 6, the truck carrying relief goods from Ngoc Lam 1 village had started moving towards old Binh Thuan to promptly support people in the flooded area.
Charity trips
In recent days, the spirit of “mutual love” has spread strongly when a series of volunteer groups and philanthropists in the East of Dak Lak have devoted all their efforts to supporting people in the old Binh Thuan flood area. From December 5 to 6, relief trucks from the volunteer groups Xi Dau, Dom Dom Phu Yen and many individuals and philanthropists have mobilized more than 50 tons of rice and necessities to the old Binh Thuan flood area.
The strongest spread came from people in communes and wards that were deeply flooded and suffered heavy damage in the recent floods such as: Phu Loc (Phu Hoa 1), Nam Binh (Dong Hoa ward), Thach Cham (Hoa Xuan), Ngoc Lam 1 (Hoa My)...

People in the East of Dak Lak clearly understand the feeling of helplessness when floodwaters come at night, understand the difference between life and death in a hair's breadth, understand the pain when years of savings are swept away in just one night... so their sympathy is even deeper.
Ms. Truong Thi Het, representative of the Xi Dau volunteer group, emotionally recounted: "People in Phu Loc, Nam Binh, and Thach Cham automatically collected relief goods very quickly, then called us to come and transport them. After collecting the goods in the morning, we immediately set off at noon so that by the evening of the same day we could hand out the gifts to people in the old Binh Thuan flood area."
Touched by the kindness of the people of the old Phu Yen (East of Dak Lak), many people of the old Binh Thuan expressed their emotions on social networks. Facebook account Bao Vy Tran wrote: "I am from Binh Thuan, I bow to thank the people of Phu Yen - a place that has just experienced loss but still has love for my hometown. I am grateful for that kindness!". Facebook account Nguyen Truong wrote: "Phu Yen has not yet recovered from the flood, but still shares with Binh Thuan, so heartwarming!".
Those words of gratitude spread on social networks, becoming a long thread of affection between the two lands suffering from the wounds caused by natural disasters. In the time of calamity, the sharing of the people in the East of Dak Lak carried a heavy sense of compatriots in difficult times, contributing to helping the people of old Binh Thuan to quickly overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.
