On the afternoon of August 6, the Thai women's team defeated Indonesia 7-0 in the opening match of Group A of the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship held at Lach Tray Stadium ( Hai Phong ).
The Thai women's team entered the tournament with a very young squad, 22/23 players under 23 years old. The oldest player, center back Sakuna Senabuth, did not start the match against Indonesia. Instead, coach Futoshi Ikeda used 5 players under 20 years old.
However, with a much higher level, the Thai women's team (ranked 46th in the world ) still proved to be too strong for Indonesia (ranked 95th in the world). In the first half, the Thai girls controlled the ball up to 83% at times.
With such a game, the Thai women's team scored 5 goals in a row before the first half ended with the excellence of midfielder Kanjanathat Poomsri (22 years old) and striker Madison Casteen (18 years old), who is currently playing football in the US.

Phomsri headed home the opening goal in the sixth minute after goalkeeper Masykuroh rushed out to clear the ball. The 22-year-old was then fouled in the box and scored her own penalty to make it 3-0 in the 27th minute.
Meanwhile, striker Madison Casteen scored a beautiful goal from more than 20m to raise the score to 2-0 in the 19th minute. And in the 40th minute, she was the one who initiated the attack, allowing Pichayatida Manowang to tap the ball into the net from close range to raise the score to 4-0.
In the second half, coach Futoshi Ikeda decided to take striker Madison Casteen off. However, the Thai women's team continued to dominate the game and scored two more goals.
In the 71st minute, 17-year-old center back Pinyaphat Klinklai headed in a free kick from the left wing, raising the score to 6-0. A minute later, substitute Promthongmee scored the winning goal after a chaotic play in Indonesia's penalty area.
The resounding victory of rival Thailand is clearly a big challenge for the Vietnamese women's team. Because both teams will meet in the final round of Group A on August 12 to decide the top spot.
