Beautiful military-civilian relationship

The Coast Guard Region 2 Command is assigned to patrol, inspect, control, maintain law enforcement, carry out management work on security, order, safety and ensure Vietnamese law, relevant international treaties from Con Co Island, Quang Tri Province to Cu Lao Xanh, Gia Lai Province.

Carrying out tasks in a large, sensitive sea area, always fraught with many complex and unpredictable factors, the Party Committee and Command of Coast Guard Region 2 regularly lead and direct the good implementation of mass mobilization work.

Implementing the program "Coast Guard accompanies fishermen" and the activity "Coast Guard with ethnic and religious compatriots", every year, the Command of Coast Guard Region 2 closely coordinates with the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Provincial Party Committee and the City Party Committee: Quang Tri, Hue, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Da Nang to organize propaganda, disseminate knowledge and laws on the sea, give gifts, provide free medical examinations and medicine to fishermen.

In 2025 alone, agencies and units under the Coast Guard Region 2 Command have effectively coordinated to implement 22 programs "Coast Guard accompanies fishermen", 16 mass mobilization activities "Coast Guard with ethnic and religious compatriots" in localities; combined with giving away more than 1,500 gifts, with a total amount of 3.5 billion VND. The Coast Guard Region 2 Command also carried out well the propaganda of laws and regulations on preventing and combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing to more than 8,150 people and fishermen in the area.

According to Colonel Le Huy, Party Secretary and Political Commissar of the Coast Guard Region 2 Command, for each officer and soldier, implementing the Program "Coast Guard accompanies fishermen" is not only a political task but also a responsibility, an emotion, and a command from the heart. Each specific and practical action of the officers and soldiers of the Coast Guard Region 2 Command towards fishermen contributes to strengthening the "people's hearts" at sea, building a solid rear for the cause of preserving and protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

A fulcrum in the middle of the ocean

With a sense of responsibility and solidarity with the people, the forces of the Coast Guard Region 2 Command always closely combine the tasks of patrolling, inspecting, controlling, maintaining law enforcement in assigned sea areas with protecting legal fishing activities, the lives and property of fishermen. The units perform well the tasks of searching, rescuing, rescuing, and providing first aid to fishermen in distress; helping people overcome incidents and repair boats; providing fresh water, food, and fuel to fishing boats in trouble at sea so that people can confidently go out to sea and stay at sea for a long time.

In particular, the Coast Guard Region 2 Command identifies the rescue, relief and safety work for fishermen as a combat mission in peacetime. There have been hundreds of cases of fishermen suffering from serious illnesses or serious accidents who have been promptly treated by the Coast Guard Region 2 Medical Force. Many fishing boats that encountered problems while fishing at sea have also been supported and towed to a place for repair by the Coast Guard Region 2 Command.

For thousands of fishermen in the central region, the image of the Coast Guard Region 2 ships has become as familiar as family members. In the vast ocean, when facing storms or lurking accidents, the Coast Guard soldiers are the fishermen's greatest hope.

The program "Coast Guard accompanies fishermen" deployed by the Coast Guard Region 2 Command over the past years has not only stopped at the slogan but has been put into practice with specific, practical actions. These are the trips of ships overcoming level 7 and level 8 waves in the dark night to promptly rescue fishing boats in distress; are the military doctors ready to jump into the sea and swim to fishing boats to rescue the injured; or simply bottles of fresh water and national flags handed to fishermen in the middle of the ocean.

Mr. Huynh Kim (born in 1985, residing in Phu Yen ward, Dak Lak province), captain of fishing boat PY 91243TS, recalled: On October 24, while fishing in the Truong Sa special economic zone, fishing boat PY 91243TS had a damaged propeller. On board, there were 2 fishermen with head injuries; 1 fisherman with leg injuries.

After sending out a distress signal, fishing boat PY 91243TS was towed to Da Nam fishing port by Ship 369 of the Coast Guard Region 2 Command. Not only did the medical team provide medical care and food for the fishermen, the commander of Ship 369 also deployed a mobile repair team to help the fishing boat overcome technical problems.

“We fishermen are very grateful to the officers and soldiers of Coast Guard Region 2. Unfortunately, we encountered an accident at sea, but we received your timely care and support. Your help not only helped protect the lives and property of fishermen, but also motivated us to confidently go out to sea and stick to the sea,” Mr. Huynh Kim emotionally shared.

Once fortunate to receive support when in distress at sea, fisherman Nguyen Thanh Duc (Nui Thanh commune, Da Nang city) said: “Along with other forces, officers and soldiers of Coast Guard Region 2 have always accompanied us on every sea trip. Thanks to their companionship, more and more boats are going out to sea to contribute to affirming and protecting the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland that our ancestors have been determined to preserve for generations.”

Closely following the requirements of the mission and the characteristics of the area, the creative and effective models and methods of the officers and soldiers of the Coast Guard Region 2 Command have helped strengthen the close relationship between the army and the people, beautifying the image of "Uncle Ho's soldiers - Coast Guard soldiers". At the same time, they have added confidence and motivation, helping fishermen in the provinces and cities of Quang Tri, Hue, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, and Da Nang to feel more secure in going offshore, developing the economy and contributing to maintaining the sovereignty of the beloved Fatherland.
