These days, Nam Yen Valley vineyard is in harvest season, so it has become a tourist attraction and grape picking experience for many people in Da Nang. This is one of the pilot models for developing agricultural tourism in Hoa Vang district.
Mr. Le Quoc Hien - the owner of the vineyard said that he is currently growing 4 types of grapes including seedless black grapes, fingernails, peony and candy grapes on an area of 3,000m2. He took the above grape roots from a cooperative in Ninh Thuan , planted them on a trial basis in Da Nang for the past 2 years and they have produced fruit and grown well.
“The seeds are from the cooperative with certification papers and care techniques. The gardeners support from seedlings to technology transfer, so thanks to the right method, the grapes have produced fruit in Da Nang’s climate,” said Mr. Hien.

According to Mr. Hien, for grapes to grow well in the climate and soil of Da Nang, the plants must be cared for properly. Grapes in Ninh Thuan are grown about 2 times a year, but when brought to Da Nang, grapes can only be grown once a year in the summer, because the rainy season will cause the flowers to fall and no fruit will be set.
After the rainy season, when the sunshine is at its peak, Mr. Hien begins to apply fruit-bearing techniques to the vineyard. Before fruiting and flowering, the gardener will nurture the plants for a month by cutting off the tops, cleaning the roots, pruning the branches and old leaves. When the plants begin to flower, Mr. Hien adds fertilizer to the plants.
“When the grapes start pollinating and bear young fruit, we start pruning them. Each bunch of grapes only retains about 40% of the young fruit, so when they mature, the grapes will be big and the bunch will be beautiful,” Mr. Hien shared.

Mr. Hien said that the grapes will grow strongly from the third year onwards. To avoid storms and whirlwinds and to facilitate care, the vineyard is designed with a Y-shaped trellis.
According to the vineyard owner, the main purpose of the vineyard is to combine with some other strange fruit trees such as longan, purple longan, cherry... to develop tourism. "Currently, the vineyard has 500 trees, the last crop yielded nearly 170kg of fruit. I am also guiding another nearby garden to plant about 300 grape trees with a similar model," said Mr. Hien.

Mr. Do Thanh Tan, Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Hoa Vang district, said that after being put into operation, the Nam Yen valley vineyard has created jobs for about 10 rural workers and created indirect jobs for those working in transportation and food services.
Promote the consumption of local OCOP specialty products; meet the entertainment and educational needs of the people. At the same time, the model also contributes positively to the tax revenue of Hoa Vang district.
“This is one of the agricultural tourism models that proves the effectiveness of integrating multiple sectors into agricultural production, increasing the value of agricultural production many times over in a sustainable direction,” said Mr. Tan.
