The UK has initiated a review of tariff quotas for certain steel products (galvanized steel sheets and steel plates).

According to information from the Vietnam Trade Office in the United Kingdom, on January 14, 2026, the UK Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) issued a notice initiating a review of tariff quotas for certain steel products subject to safeguard measures under Group 4 (Metal-coated steel sheets) and Group 7 (Quarto steel plates). The safeguard measures on steel products will expire in June 2026.

Here is some information related to the review:

Products covered by the review: The review focuses on the following two product groups:

+ Category 4: Metallic coated sheet. Specific product codes proposed for removal include some codes under categories 7210.61 and 7210.69.

+ Category 7: Quarto plates (Non-alloy and other alloy quarto plates). Specific product codes proposed for removal include some codes under categories 7208.51 and 7208.52.

The purpose of this review is to consider removing certain specific product codes from the scope of application of safeguard measures under Group 4 and Group 7.

Point of Inquiry (POI) Period: From October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025.

Registration for stakeholder participation: Stakeholders (including exporters, importers, foreign governments , etc.) wishing to participate in the review process must register before January 25, 2026, and submit comments through TRA's Trade Remedies Service.

The Trade Remedies Department recommends that the Vietnam Steel Association and enterprises producing and exporting related products (especially galvanized steel sheets and steel plates) review the HS codes of their exported products to see if they overlap with the codes being proposed for removal from the measures. If there is a vested interest, they should register to participate within the deadline to protect their rights.
