The Asian Mind Games (also known as the Asian Mind Games) was held for the first time in Singapore and took place from November 13 to 15. There were 5 competitions taking place at this congress, including chess, Chinese chess, Go, bridge and Rubik's cube.
After winning the world championship in September, Lai Ly Huynh faced a lot of pressure in this tournament, when China sent 6 powerful players (4 men, 2 women) to challenge his position as "king of chess".
Chess at the Asian Games was a rapid chess event, mixed gender, and there were many surprises after the first rounds.
Lai Ly Huynh alone maintained his class and unbeaten record. He won 3 matches and drew 1 match in the first 4 rounds taking place on November 13.
On the morning of November 14, Lai Ly Huynh continued to compete in round 5 and round 6 and maintained his record of 1 win (2-0), 1 draw (1-1) against players Ta Dinh Hang (Taiwan) and Vuong Vu Bac (China).
Thus, after 6 rounds, Lai Ly Huynh has 10 points, holding the top position with the strongest players from China such as Doan Thang, Vuong Vu Bac, Manh Phan Due and Duong Tu Nam, as well as surpassing some other Chinese players such as Vuong Tu Ham and Vuong Gia Thuy.
However, Lai Ly Huynh has only faced one player from China, Vuong Vu Bac. On the afternoon of November 14, he will meet Doan Thang again in round 7. Doan Thang was the one Lai Ly Huynh defeated in the world finals last September.
The Chinese chess community is currently very excited, eager to defeat Lai Ly Huynh after he usurped the title of "world chess king" after decades of domination.
