Walmart has recorded three cases of consumers being injured when the lid of an “Ozark Trail 64 oz” insulated water bottle flew into their faces, including two people suffering eye injuries that resulted in permanent vision loss.
Retail giant Walmart is recalling about 850,000 “Ozark Trail 64 oz” stainless steel water bottles after two users were left permanently blinded after the lids popped open too forcefully, causing serious injuries.
According to a July 10 announcement from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the above thermos "poses a risk of strong impact and skin laceration."
The reason is that when users open the bottle after it has contained food, carbonated drinks or perishable drinks such as juice or milk for a long time, the bottle cap can pop off with great force, suddenly hitting them in the face.
To date, Walmart has recorded three cases of consumers being injured when the bottle cap flew into their faces, two of whom suffered eye injuries leading to permanent vision loss.
The recalled bottles have been widely sold at Walmart stores across the United States since 2017. Although the product code 83-662 is not printed directly on the bottle, consumers can check this code on the product packaging.
The product's recognizable design includes a silver stainless steel body, a solid black screw cap, and a prominent Ozark Trail logo on the body of the bottle./.
