As soon as the river water level rose to the banks, the Buon Don commune government mobilized 100 officers, soldiers of the police, army, militia and local organizations to urgently support people in harvesting watermelons and transporting their belongings to high ground. The authorities went to each house to propagate and mobilize people to evacuate, but many households were still subjective and refused to leave. In the urgent situation, the commune was forced to organize the forced evacuation of 17 households from the deep flooded area, moving them to the community cultural houses of the villages to ensure safety. The organizations and unions were assigned to cook meals and take care of the health of the people during the shelter period.
At the same time, many areas in the commune were cut off; Drang Phok hamlet alone was completely isolated. The water did not recede until the morning of November 25. During the isolation period, two sick villagers were taken out by canoe by the Yok Don National Park rangers for timely treatment. Food, provisions and necessities were also continuously transported in to ensure the people's livelihood.

Mr. Le Van Binh, a resident of Ea Mar village, was still in shock when he recounted: “I have lived here for many years, and have never seen such a big flood. On the afternoon of November 21, when the commune officials persuaded me, I refused to leave. Thanks to the authorities, I was taken to a safe place, but that night the water had reached the edge of the roof.” After the water receded, the border guards and local authorities came in to help his family clean up the mud and rearrange their belongings before welcoming their children back.

Up to this point, the lives of Buon Don residents have basically returned to normal. However, the recent unusual flood shows that the risk of natural disasters is increasingly unpredictable. The mobilization of "4 on-site" forces, safe evacuation, emergency supplies as well as post-flood cleanup shows the determination and responsibility of Buon Don commune authorities. However, to respond to natural disasters, local people hope that authorities at all levels need to have more sustainable solutions: planning low-lying areas, upgrading canal systems, enhancing early forecasting, helping people proactively evacuate when floods come.
