Building homes helps people settle down.

The dream of a sturdy, spacious house has come true for the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Phuong (born in 1968, residing in Binh Chanh hamlet, Chau Phu commune ) because her family has just received a solidarity house built for them by the No. 1 Charity House Construction Team of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Association of Chau Phu commune . From now on, her family will no longer have to live in a dilapidated, temporary house.

“I am so happy to have received support from the local government and the members of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Association in the commune to build such a sturdy house. I will try my best to maintain this meaningful house well and work hard to have a better life,” said Mrs. Phuong.

The charitable housing construction team in Chau Phu commune is building houses for the local people.

According to Nguyen Hoang Khang, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Chau Phu commune, after the merger, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune, in coordination with mass organizations and hamlets, reviewed the circumstances of each household to find solutions to help poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households in the commune.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune and the local government actively mobilize social resources to support the construction of solidarity houses for poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households in the commune. The commune focuses on reviewing and prioritizing those with particularly difficult circumstances, single-parent families, and those whose houses are severely damaged, ensuring fairness, openness, and transparency.

Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Huong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Giang province, visited and encouraged the No. 1 charitable house-building team in Chau Phu commune.

Thanks to the attention of all levels of government and relevant agencies, the sharing and contributions of the community, and especially the active support of the No. 1 Charity House Construction Team of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Association in Chau Phu commune, many poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households have received the joy of living in solidarity houses. Each house handed over not only brings the joy of stable housing but also provides further motivation for families to strive for a better life.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tham, Head of the Representative Board of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Church in An Giang province and concurrently Head of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Management Board in Chau Phu commune, said that after the merger, the Hoa Hao Buddhist Management Board in Chau Phu commune continues to maintain 4 charitable house-building groups (8 to 15 members per group). Since the beginning of the year, these charitable groups have coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune and local authorities to build 14 houses and repair 1 house to help poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households stabilize their lives, with a total cost of over 720 million VND.

“Witnessing the joy of poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households having new homes, we further understand the profound humanitarian significance of supporting the construction of solidarity houses, reflecting the nation's tradition of mutual support. We believe that with these new homes, people can work with peace of mind and strive to improve their lives,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Tham.

Contributing to building our homeland

As we traveled through the rural roads of Chau Phu commune, we could sense the changes in every aspect. The rural landscape here has improved significantly, with infrastructure and transportation networks being developed comprehensively. Inter-hamlet and inter-commune roads have been paved with asphalt or concrete, and rural bridges have been constructed. The lives of the people have improved considerably.

According to Le Quoc Phong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Chau Phu commune, recognizing that developing transportation infrastructure is a crucial prerequisite for socio-economic development, the local government has leveraged various funding sources and harnessed the strength of the entire political system and the people to participate in the socialization of building rural bridges and roads, following the motto "The people know, the people discuss, the people do, the people inspect, the people contribute, and the people benefit."

"After the merger, the commune proceeded to review the rural transportation system throughout the entire commune. From there, it determined priorities, developed a plan for allocating funds, and mobilized social resources to upgrade and reinforce rural bridges and roads," said Mr. Le Quoc Phong.

Currently, Chau Phu commune has completed the construction of the Canal 7 - South National Canal bridge, with a cost of over 2 billion VND, and is expected to hold the inauguration ceremony in early June. At the same time, the commune is focusing on constructing the Tuyet Hoa bridge (Canal 2 - North Chu My Canal), with a cost of over 1.5 billion VND, and is expected to be completed in June.

Furthermore, Chau Phu commune is preparing to start construction of Tu Anh bridge (Canal 1 - North of Chu My canal), with a total cost of over 1.6 billion VND; and is coordinating with Vinh Thanh Trung commune to start construction of Canal 2 bridge, with a total cost of approximately 3 billion VND.

“These bridges were built entirely through social mobilization efforts by the local government. This shows that the construction of bridges and roads in the commune has received the approval and support of the people. When there is a plan to build bridges and roads, the people enthusiastically respond, readily donating land, contributing funds and labor to complete the roads and bridges on schedule and with the best quality,” said Mr. Le Quoc Phong.

The once muddy roads have been paved with smooth concrete and asphalt. Temporary wooden bridges have been replaced by sturdy concrete bridges, giving rural areas a new look and meeting the transportation and trade needs of the people. Mr. Nguyen Hung Thanh, a resident of Binh Chanh hamlet, said: “Everyone is happy and excited that the roads have been upgraded and widened, making them more accessible and facilitating the transportation of agricultural products and goods for the people.”

Mr. Pham Van Hung, a resident of Binh Duc hamlet, said: “Being able to join forces with the local government to complete the bridge, helping people travel more conveniently, makes me very happy and grateful. My colleagues and I will continue building houses, contributing to the construction of more bridges, and upgrading rural roads. As long as we have the strength and as long as the people still need us, we will continue this meaningful work.”

The Tuyet Hoa Bridge (Canal 2 - North of Chu My Canal) is under urgent construction and is expected to be completed in June 2026.

Visiting charitable organizations in Chau Phu commune that are constructing houses for local people, the Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Giang province, Tran Thi Thanh Huong, respectfully acknowledged and praised the great contributions of these charitable organizations, helping the locality to effectively carry out social welfare work, especially the construction of charity houses, solidarity houses; and the construction and repair of rural bridges and roads.

Comrade Tran Thi Thanh Huong expressed her hope that charitable organizations would continue to uphold the spirit of mutual support and compassion, mobilizing resources to build more houses to help people settle down; construct more sturdy rural bridges; and join hands with local authorities to carry out social welfare activities, care for the poor, build new rural areas, and make Chau Phu homeland increasingly prosperous and beautiful.
