Dan Hoa Commune:

Tao Duong village, Dan Hoa commune (Hanoi) has become a "hot spot" with the appearance of two dengue fever outbreaks. The second outbreak is particularly complex, with 23 cases and a larval index reaching 40, far exceeding the safe threshold and posing a potential risk of a widespread epidemic.

Strengthen communication and raise public awareness.

Since the beginning of the year, Dan Hoa commune has recorded 24 cases of dengue fever, a five-fold increase compared to the same period in 2025. According to statistics, the second outbreak in Tao Duong village was recorded on May 11, 2026. To date, the entire village has 23 cases. The mosquito larva index (BI) has reached 40, double the permissible risk threshold of 20. The density of disease-transmitting mosquitoes and larvae in residential areas is very high.

Epidemiological investigations have identified the main causes as the use of rainwater storage tanks and containers that are not properly covered or do not contain fish to eat mosquito larvae. In addition, the accumulation of waste materials, discarded items, and stagnant water in potted plants creates favorable conditions for mosquito breeding. A segment of the population still exhibits a complacent attitude, is absent from home, or has not actively cooperated with authorities during inspections and chemical spraying campaigns to control the outbreak.

Given the complex developments of the epidemic, Dan Hoa commune has urgently implemented many comprehensive solutions, with particular emphasis on raising awareness and mobilizing people to proactively prevent dengue fever.

The commune organized a dengue fever prevention and control awareness campaign at the elderly meeting in Tao Duong village, with the participation of numerous officials, members, and local people. Through this, residents were informed about the disease situation, guided on how to recognize symptoms, and taught effective prevention measures.

According to Mr. Tran Van Huyen, Director of Dan Hoa Commune Health Station, following the directives of the Commune Party Committee, the Commune People's Committee, and the higher-level health sector, Dan Hoa Commune Health Station has proactively coordinated with various departments, agencies, and organizations to promote awareness through various forms.

The commune and village broadcasting systems regularly disseminate information about the disease situation, signs of dengue fever, and prevention measures. Direct communication sessions are organized in residential areas and schools to raise community awareness.

In addition, the health sector distributed leaflets and guided people on implementing measures such as eliminating mosquito larvae; covering water containers tightly; changing the water in flower vases; introducing fish into water tanks; collecting waste, cleaning the environment, and sleeping under mosquito nets to prevent mosquito bites.

Take decisive action to control the outbreak.

Alongside public awareness campaigns, Dan Hoa commune is focusing on controlling the outbreak to limit the risk of widespread transmission. To date, the locality has organized four rounds of waste collection and four rounds of mosquito control spraying at both outbreak sites. In the most recent spraying on May 20, 2026, the spraying rate reached 85.8%, with thorough spraying reaching 67.6%; however, 9% of households were absent and 5.2% refused the spraying.

“Immediately after detecting suspected or confirmed cases, the commune health station coordinated with the villages to conduct epidemiological investigations, quarantine, handle outbreaks, and spray chemicals according to regulations. At the same time, they strengthened surveillance in areas with cases, guided people to monitor their health, and went to medical facilities when they showed signs of illness,” Mr. Tran Van Huyen added.

In addition, organizations such as the Women's Union, the Youth Union, the Farmers' Association, along with village health workers and population collaborators, were mobilized to participate in general environmental sanitation campaigns, going door-to-door to inspect water containers and provide guidance on mosquito larva control.

After receiving information and training on dengue fever prevention measures, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai, a resident of Tao Duong village, Dan Hoa commune, shared: “Previously, I didn't pay much attention to covering water containers or checking for places where mosquito larvae could develop around the house. After receiving guidance from health officials , my family has proactively cleaned the environment, changed the water in flower vases regularly, and cooperated with the local authorities in spraying campaigns.”

The Dan Hoa commune authorities advise residents to raise their awareness of disease prevention, proactively eliminate mosquito larvae, maintain environmental hygiene, and cooperate with the health sector in chemical spraying campaigns to protect the health of their families and the community, and prevent the disease from spreading further.
