Dien Tho Commune: A vibrant movement of farmers excelling in production and business.

Over the past period, the Farmers' Association of Dien Tho commune has extensively implemented the movement "Farmers excelling in production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty"; through this, many positive results have been achieved, contributing to improving the lives of the people and building new rural areas in the locality.

The movement "Farmers excelling in production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty" has long been a highlight in Dien Tho. Responding to the movement, many farmers have boldly shifted their crop and livestock structures, applying advanced techniques to improve productivity and product quality.

Mr. Nguyen Huynh Thanh Truc, a model farmer, shared: “Since joining the movement, I have boldly expanded my service provision, combining livestock farming and fruit tree cultivation, thereby increasing my income by 2-3 billion VND per year and creating stable jobs for nearly 20 workers in the surrounding area.” Mr. Truc's story is a clear example of the changing production mindset of farmers in the era of integration.

Besides Mr. Truc, the commune also has many exemplary farmers who excel in production and business, such as Mr. Tran Em and Mr. Le Kim Thanh with their fruit tree cultivation model combined with services, earning between 800 million and 1 billion VND per year; in livestock farming, members such as Pham Huu Nghia, Tran Van Anh Tuan, Nguyen Dinh Khanh, Nguyen Minh Ly... use a method combining biological bedding, which not only helps improve production efficiency but also protects the environment, reduces costs, increases profits, and contributes to changing traditional agricultural practices.

The movement also promoted the formation of concentrated production areas. Typical examples include the model of growing sugarcane on 35 hectares, yielding a profit of 70-100 million VND/hectare; the model of linking production of high-quality rice seeds on 100 hectares with a yield of 68-75 quintals/hectare, and rice selling price at the field from 7,100-8,000 VND/kg; or the model of linking the cultivation of water spinach, which brings high economic value, providing farmers with tens of millions of VND/month/ ^1,000m² ...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Trinh, a member of the chicken farming cooperative, said: “Initially, I was very worried when I joined the cooperative. Thanks to the technical training and market connections provided by the Farmers' Association, my family's chicken flock is now stable, yielding hundreds of millions of dong in profit each year.”

Enhancing the role of partnership

To achieve effective economic models, besides the diligence of farmers, the timely support and partnership of the Dien Tho Commune Farmers' Association are crucial. Especially after its establishment through the merger of three former units (the Dien Tan, Dien Phuoc, and Dien Tho Commune Farmers' Associations), the organization has developed and operated effectively. Currently, the association has 11 branches with over 2,500 members. In the first seven months of 2025, the association coordinated with the Social Policy Bank and the Agricultural and Rural Development Bank to disburse over 19.3 billion VND to 393 households for investment in machinery, garden renovation, purchasing seedlings and livestock, and expanding and improving production and business efficiency. The association also actively promotes the establishment of cooperatives and professional associations to help farmers link production and product consumption, enhancing competitiveness and profitability. In the commune, a professional association for ML 202 rice seeds has been established with 36 members; in addition, there are 8 cooperatives and 12 professional associations with 400 members, implementing models such as sugarcane cultivation, fruit tree farming, chicken farming, and handicraft weaving...

Mr. Vo Duc Ly, Head of the ML 202 Rice Seed Association, shared: “Previously, farmers produced independently, resulting in low efficiency. Since joining the professional association, we have regularly received training in cultivation techniques, established output linkages, and have access to convenient loans. As a result, the quality of rice seeds is consistent, constantly improving, and the selling price is more stable.”

Alongside economic development, the association actively implements models and activities to protect the environment. The Farmers' Green Environment Protection Club, established by the association, operates actively and effectively. The club has 16 members, who form the core force in initiating and participating in cleaning up public areas. Members also actively promote and encourage association members and farmers to sort household waste and clean up village roads and alleys. In particular, the club implements models such as: composting organic fertilizer from crop by-products; utilizing organic waste from agricultural production to ferment into animal feed and biological bedding for chicken farming; utilizing by-products and leftover food from daily life to raise calcium-rich worms; and using manure to raise earthworms for agricultural and livestock production, helping farmers increase their income.

In the context of the digital transformation of agriculture, the association has pioneered guiding its members to install the Vietnam Farmers' Association application, open accounts on e-commerce platforms, and participate in provincial agricultural product fairs to promote their products. To date, dozens of members have participated in online sales, initially bringing agricultural products to a wider market.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of the commune, affirmed: "The achievements are the result of the efforts and determination of each member and farmer; and the practical support of the association, from loans and scientific and technical knowledge to market connections. In the coming time, the association will continue to promote its role as a bridge, accompanying members in building and developing more effective, environmentally friendly production and business models that are in line with the overall development orientation of the commune."
