On November 27, according to information from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City, the reservoirs are operating to regulate to lower the water level, increase flood prevention capacity, in which the current discharge levels are all below the threshold that affects the downstream area of Ho Chi Minh City.

At Tri An Lake, the total discharge at 9am on November 27 was 1,327m³/s. According to the 2019 downstream flood prevention plan, the flow below 3,600m³/s will not affect the old Binh Duong area - the area closest to the spillway of Ho Chi Minh City after the merger.

Dau Tieng Lake is discharging 36-200m³/s from November 25 to December 2 to proactively lower the water level during periods of no rain and low tide. The Department also said that this flow does not affect households along the Saigon River, and field inspection results and local reports also show that the situation is safe.

The City Department of Agriculture and Environment added that the Da Den, Song Hoa and Song Ray reservoirs are releasing water to increase their flood prevention capacity. If heavy rains occur, releasing water with a larger flow rate could affect households producing along the Dinh and Ray rivers.

Recently, the city has regularly monitored storms, high tides and water discharge developments to coordinate with reservoir owners to adjust flow and limit unfavorable combinations that cause flooding.

The department said this release was carried out during low tide to avoid coinciding with peak tides like in October and early November, when heavy rains combined with historic high tides caused flooding in many riverside areas. During high tide, the discharge from the reservoir will be reduced and the environmental flow will be maintained at 36m³/s.

In case the flood discharge threatens to affect residents, the department will issue warnings via television, radio, and mobile messages, and localities will inform people via the Zalo system of neighborhoods and hamlets.
