With 20 households participating in cultivation on an area of 2.4 hectares, after more than two months of implementation, the herbal rice cultivation model has initially yielded positive results. The rice plants are growing and developing well, with few pests and diseases; the estimated yield is 2-2.2 quintals per sao (1 sao = 1000 square meters). With a selling price ranging from 18,000 to 19,000 VND/kg of paddy rice, the total production value is estimated at 104 million to 114 million VND/ha; potentially 15-25% higher than conventional rice.
Leaders from the Department of Science and Technology, along with leaders from Hop Ly commune, visited a model farm growing medicinal rice.
According to assessments, this is a high-yielding, high-quality, and valuable rice variety that is adaptable to the local climate and farming techniques.
Based on the initial success of the Vinh Hoa herbal rice cultivation model, Hop Ly commune will encourage people to adopt this rice variety, expand the planting area, and develop production towards a commercial direction.
The model of cultivating medicinal rice opens up a new direction in the development of local agricultural economy , contributing to increasing people's income and promoting sustainable agricultural production.
