Lai Vung Commune: Towards perfecting universal health insurance

Up to now, the rate of people in the area participating in HI has reached over 96% (according to health sector statistics). To maintain the health insurance rate stable and continue to increase, the Party Committee and People's Committee of Lai Vung commune directed departments, branches, socio- political organizations, Party cells, and hamlet cadres to strengthen their contact with the people, "Go to every alley, knock on every door, check every subject", directly propagate so that people understand and voluntarily participate, diversify forms of support and mutual assistance.

At the same time, mobilize social resources to help households in difficult circumstances have the conditions to participate in health insurance, aiming at the goal of completing universal health insurance coverage.

Mr. Vo Hong Tho (60 years old, An Lac hamlet) regularly goes to medical facilities to treat joint pain and blood pressure and has been hospitalized three times this year. Mr. Vo Hong Tho shared: “Thanks to health insurance, each time I am hospitalized, it only costs me a few hundred thousand dong.

If you do not participate in health insurance, the cost of treatment will be a big burden for your family. This is a small investment but brings great benefits against health risks."

To ensure widespread coverage of health insurance, the Party cell secretaries of hamlets and socio-political organizations of Lai Vung commune actively visited each household to propagate and explain the significance of participating in health insurance. Comrade Nguyen Thanh Phuong, Party cell secretary and head of the People's Committee of An Lac hamlet (Lai Vung commune), said: "In the past time, for the hamlet, participation in health insurance has basically met the set target, but some people who work far away have not been able to access it, so we had to call them for advice so that they understand and agree to participate in buying health insurance. In the near future, the locality will continue to follow this solution."

Lai Vung commune currently has 3 groups pooling capital to buy health insurance among cadres, members and women. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Huong, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Lai Vung Commune, said: "In rural areas, many households are still in difficult circumstances, so spending a few million VND to buy health insurance for the whole family is difficult.

Therefore, the Association has maintained and expanded the model of "Capital pooling group to buy health insurance" to support members; at the same time, it has integrated propaganda into the Association's activities, inviting health insurance agents to attend for direct consultation.

In the coming time, the Association will continue to spread the model, encourage women to save money to proactively participate in health insurance, and reduce difficulties when buying voluntary health insurance for their families."

With the participation of the Party Committee - Government, the cooperation of the political system and the People, Lai Vung commune is getting closer to the goal of universal health insurance coverage, contributing to improving the quality of community health care and ensuring sustainable social security.
