Use rafts and boats to cross the river.
Visiting Da Trang village these days, looking towards both banks of the river, one can still see the Cau Ba - Khanh Nam inter-communal suspension bridge, broken into many pieces by the floodwaters, with chunks of concrete and steel protruding from the water. From early morning, many villagers, carrying farming tools, food, and motorbikes, wait at the temporary gathering point to prepare to board rafts and boats to cross the river.

To cross the river, people have to use pulleys and ropes to secure the riverbanks, build temporary wooden landings, and sit on makeshift rafts or boats, using human strength to pull the ropes to cross. The Cai River is calm this season, so pulling the boats with the ropes isn't too difficult. However, once they get their vehicles to shore, the steep slope requires many people to push each motorbike up the hill, which is very strenuous. “Although we know crossing the river like this is dangerous, taking the old inter-communal route is very far, about 30km round trip. With the urgent need for transportation, people have no choice but to use temporary rafts to cross the river, shortening the distance and saving on fuel costs.” grandfather Ha Nhon (Nam Khanh Vinh commune) shared.

Currently, unless they cross the river by raft or boat, residents of Da Trang and Cha Lien villages have to take a longer, roundabout route to reach their production areas. Mr. Ha Nhuong, from Da Trang village, shared: "The villagers hope that the local government will pay attention and invest in a new bridge soon, creating favorable conditions for people to travel to their production areas and transport agricultural products as the new planting season approaches."
Three new suspension bridges to be built in February.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Tran Van Lau, Head of the Economic Department of Nam Khanh Vinh commune, said: "To help people travel more conveniently, the Provincial People's Committee recently allocated funds to rebuild three bridges: the Cau Ba - Khanh Nam inter-commune suspension bridge, the Cha Lien village suspension bridge, and the Da Trang village suspension bridge (near National Highway 27C). In early December, the Commune People's Committee approved the investment plan and the economic and technical report for the construction of the three aforementioned projects, with a total investment of over 15 billion VND, and the Commune People's Council issued a resolution allocating funds for these three projects."

According to Mr. Lau, the commune does not encourage people to use unsafe makeshift vehicles to cross the river. However, due to the urgent need for transportation, the commune is deploying forces to monitor the situation; at the same time, when it rains and the river water rises, the local authorities will prohibit these makeshift vehicles to ensure absolute safety for people crossing the river.
